Check the plug!
Rooster-- I just did a transmission swap between an auto and a manual equipped trucks, which requires swapping the engine wiring harness. When I removed (with great difficulty) the wiring connector for the fuel heater element, I found the contacts had gotten hot (from poor contact) and melted the plastic connector housings. BOTH TRUCKS HAD THIS PROBLEM! If the fuel preheater doesn't work, this could be where the problem lies. I also found a broken wire to the water in fuel sensor which would fail to warn about water in the filter housing (which could freeze) on on of the trucks. I live in Minnesota and have never had a fuel gelling problem, never used fuel additives either.
Pumperdude-- I live at the beginning of the Mississippi and I have one thing to say: 40 below keeps the riff-raff out!
