How much fuel do you think you have when the guage reads empty? How much does it take to fill the tank when the gauge reads empty?

Dodge leaves you with about a 10% margin when the gauge reads empty. That amounts to about 3-4 gallons reserve.

Anybody have any ideas Thanks

All guages in my experience have a 10% reserve at the top (it will show full when you have burned 3 gallons, which I use to my advantage when returning rental cars), and a 10% reserve at empty. You can drive about 40-60 miles below empty before running out. What's wrong with that?

Unless you are referring to the slow rising of the fuel gauge after going from empty to half full (due to an expensive filling station, when you're just trying to make it to a better one)

I had a problem with my fuel gauge and It was the

headlight switch the knob that adjust the dash lights. As you turn the knob the fuel guage would go to empty and the tail lights would go out. Put a new headlight switch In the dash and no more problem. Yours could be different?

Man, talk about stray electrons. Only DC could make something that could move a fuel gauge by dimming the lights!

I started the website late last year. It gets submitted to the search engines soon and you'll be able to find it and everything on it by using any search engine. I've got a lot more work to do, but I've got time while I'm waiting for my surgery.

Fuel gage issues

On my 03, the fuel level gage is controlled by the Front Control Module. When I installed my Transfer-Flow they have you splice into the sending unit wire such that the fuel gage is recalibrated to read total fuel capacity. It warns you in the instructions that the fuel float level is only monitored periodically and that the fuel gage only responds to tank level changes during these "on" periods. I believe that one of these "on" periods is after a crank cycle. I also know that the tank does not read full after filling both tanks for several miles and sometimes it will stay at about 3/4 until the next start cycle then it will peg full with the transfer flow installed. Hope this helps. Ken Irwin

Could the gauge "assembly" in the tank have spun and the float is now against the side of the tank (because it is possible for the float to touch the side of the tank depending on orientation in the tank). Or, could the float have fallen off the rod?

This could be possible, but it takes a lot of force to spin one in the tank. It would have had to be installed incorrectly which is entirely possible. We need more info about the situation, but tomahs hasn't answered any of our questions!

You are absolutely right Spooled-up, I had to use a block of wood and a hammer to get the retaining ring off of mine to even think about moving it.

It reads empty even when it is full. I did have it read full a few times when it was not full in the past, but that would not last long. It has read empty for about 2 weeks now.
