fuel guage

Im new to this forum. I just got an '02 quad cab 4X4 a couple of months ago. I never let my fuel get this low, but the other day I let it get down to 1/8th tank . Just below 1/8 tank the low fuel light came on. I thought I could make it a few miles so I drove almost home (about 10 miles) to fuel up. Well, when I filled it up, it only took less than 23. 5 gal. Which means, when the light came on, I had 10. 5 gal left, or almost a third of a tank. Has anyone had the same occurance ? Should the light come on that soon and should the gauge say 1/8 tank when there is still 1/3 left ? It seems kind of high to me. Otherwise, the guage seems to be pretty consistant. When I get down to 1/2 tank ( and drive it there for a while, not just when it first gets there) I can always count on 14 gal on a fill up. Also, the needle nevers waivers up or down like on a lot of cars when you got up or down a hill (or over a bump)

Mine is a 34 Gal tank(short bed) when the light comes on (1/8th of a tank) I can put anywere between 26-28 gals in it.

my 98 says right in the owners manual that when the light comes on, you have 7-10 gallons left. Not a consern when driving around home, but tie a 12,000 lbs RV behind you, and have the light come in some back roads area, where you have no clue where the next diesel station is, and you will be glad you had 7-10 gallons left!
