Look at this...

Installed a NEW heater element and NEW harness last spring because my connector was burned.

Cut off the OEM harness connector, stripped the wire back to nice clean copper strands, crimped on some high quality male spades. Loaded the connector & spades w/ dielectric grease.

Now this morning I go to unplug it for the spring & summer. (I'd swear the engine runs smoother w/ the heater disconnected) and see one spade is burned & melted.

Now I am back to square-one. I need a new harness.

JoeG,

I should have listen to you and did away w/ the heater assembly. :-laf

I did listen to Joe, I removed mine & forgot it was ever there. No problems all winter. When it is real cold out, the truck seems a little sluggish for a minute or two after it's started in the morning, but it's fine after that.

Another vote for taking out the heater. Took mine out about 5 months ago after finding the connectors burnt up at the fuel heater and little thermostat. No problems since taking it out.

According to my shop manual the purpose of the heater is prevent waxing in the injection pump. Having said that my fuel heater has been burned out for at least 5 years and I live in Michigan.
