Upgrades for my 01

I have installed the AirDog II ... . awesome ! But bypassing the OEM lift pump, filter, and heater/pre filter left me with no heat for the winter. Tried plumbing the 1/2" fuel line into just the pre filter and heater, but not designed for 25 psi, it leaked from the sensor. Anyone have ideas on how to get some heat to the fuel or filters?

As far as aftermarket inline heaters go Racor is the best product I have found, but they are $$$. But they make a nice heater that could easily be attached to the inlet to the AD. Page 4 should have what you are looking for. The OEM heater is 300w for reference.

Too bad AD doesn't have a heater provision on their pump like FASS.

What year is your truck? You may not need 25 psi, and can turn it down and run it thru the heater, but you want heat pre-filters not post.

After running into gelling problems when I was running up north I installed an Arctic Fox in-line fuel warmer (model I-702) that worked quite well. It is a stainless steel heat exchanger. I tied it into the engine coolant and used a couple of valves when needed. I usually only used it when it was below 15 degrees F or so.

In-Line Fuel Warmers

I started using this when ULSD first came out and I was gelling up real bad. I used 4 or 5 well know fuel additives to no avail (even went as high as triple dose). I think the additive companies had to change their formulas for the ULSD. After installing this fuel heater I had no more problems.

yea... . have seen the Fass, after purchasing the Dog )-: yea, 3oow 40amp at the connection of the pigtail Now I have a key on power source with the oem gone. 98 Dodge 12 valve, fuel pressure needs to be 25 to 30 psi to the inector pump. In line sounds good but worried about the filters on the Dog mounted on the frame, just aft of the driver door. Don't want to use additives, I think the fuel doesn' get warm enough to make a difference..... Thanks for the feedback, all!

If you put an external heater just before the AD, and insulate the filters your fuel will make it thru the filters just fine (as long as your not running summer fuel in 0° weather) and then the P pump will reheat any fuel as it gets to the motor.

very nice AH..... like that. brings me to a thought of relocating the OEM pre filter/heater and extending the pigtail wiring in front of the Dog. Looks like a beer coolie!

I installed one of the Racor nomad 14728 300 watt on my truck 5 or 6 years ago.

I have used it in -45 to -50 with no problems.

It is mounted between the draw tube(which draws out of a 5 gal header tank that

stays full all the time) and the FASS.

BRrrrr... . that's [[[cold]] Bob! Since posting this morning, I have figured out how to relocate the OEM. The Dog has a 3/8 npt INLET thread and the OEM has a 3/8 npt OUTLET thread... . sooo... . a 3/8 npt 304 SS nipple connects the two. A little wiring splice to lenghten the pigtail from stock location and I have 300 watt "key on" power!

Thanks for the response... . hope it never gets that cold here in New Mexico!
