01 2500 HO/6sp A few times per day I try to accelerate and no response. Motor acts like it didn't get the message for 2-4 seconds, then takes off with a vengeance if I am not careful with the throttle. While not responding it generates copious blue smoke. It usually occurs after coasting downhill or when starting out from a stop sign etc. Air temp or engine temp status not a factor. Motor operates as normal at all other times/conditions.

Check your codes. Turn the key on-off-on-off-on and leave it in the on position. The odometer window will read out PCU and ECU codes. When all have been displayed it says either pdone or edone depending on the cycle it is running.

Post them here. Sounds like your VP44 is crapping out. Do you have a FP gauge? What is your fuel pressure?

Not to make too many assumptions about you or the truck, but since this is your first post, I might assume you are new to at least this truck, and possibly diesels in general???

Does the truck have the stock turbo?

Does it have stock injectors?

Is there a fueling box(es) of any kind on the truck?

I'm just thinking that if there is some monster single turbo, huge nozzles, etc. , then you may just be experiencing the wonderful turbo lag that all of us with BOMBed trucks and manual transmission's do when we mash the go faster pedal and wait for a moment or two before entering hyper-space :D

Tom-

Truck is completely stock, I have been around diesels (cars, trucks, tractors, combines) for quite awhile and am very familiar with turbo lag situation from experience with gas and diesel cars and this truck. Bought the truck new in 01.

I do not have a fuel pressure gauge. OK, what is a VP44? Will check codes.

Thanks for any ideas.

PCU Codes: P0500, P1693

Normal codes nothing to worry about. P0500 has to do with the wheels traveling at a faster speed then the truck, another words you spun the wheels, and P1693 is a companion code that goes with it. They should clear them selfs after 20 or 30 start cycles unless you have a scanner to erase them.

VP44 is the injection pump. You are going to want to get a fuel pressure gauge. If the LP (lift pump) goes out the truck may continue to run put the VP is lubricated by the fuel and if you starve it, it will eventually go bad. Check you LP and pressure.
