well I guess to each his own when it comes to addatives. I dont think my vp-44 would still be alive if it were not for addatives. on the forums there are a huge number of injection pumps that have died an early death. I realize there are other reasons for this. I will still continue to use the howes and mmo and see how long the pump will last.

Well if that's the case let me ask this, I log lots of miles, sometimes 3 fill ups a day. what would be an appropriate amount of additive without going over board. Fuels expensive enough let alone adding addititve every tank.

Machinemover,

I know DC suggests that additives are not necessary if using quality diesel fuel. However, I have cured a low rpm. injector knock, with additives, that neither DC nor the dealer would fix after multiple visits to the dealer.

A lot of the fuel we are getting here in AZ is from CA & is ULSD. Up until recently, it has been very dry & low in lubricity, from what I've heard. Additives containing added lubricity were a good idea.

We have a military installation (Luke AFB) in the Phoenix area. Bosch has noticed a trend where communities near a military installation that used jet fuel were having an abnormal number of fuel system failures.

It seems that the military will refuse delivery of jet fuel that has the slightest contamination from diesel fuel. That jet fuel is sent to local tank farms, has additives introduced into the fuel to, hopefully, bring it up to diesel fuel standards, and then sold to us for use in our vehicles.

Sometimes, the additives aren't distributed evenly or in sufficient quantity. We buy it & possibly damage our fuel delivery systems.

For these reasons, in my opinion, using an additive is probably not a bad idea.

To me, the additives are cheap insurance against future CP3 or injector problems, and I feel the costs are offset slightly by increased fuel mileage.

I carry a 32-oz translucent plastic bottle that originally contained 2-cycle oil. In this bottle I mix 4 ounces of Primrose PowerMaster 405 concentrate with 12 ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil. Add 16 ounces of diesel fuel and shake well. I pour half (16-oz) of this mix in with each tankful of fuel.

I buy MMO by the gallon locally, and got it on sale last time for $7 each. The Primrose I get by the quart from AV Lubricants over the Internet, and it goes a long way. It's costs around $9 per quart plus shipping, but you can buy in gallon quantities and save $$$ if you'd use a lot. I figure my additive cost per tankful of fuel is roughly $1.
