I need a new fuel injector pump for a 1999. I was told I would have to replace the transfer lift pump also to warrenty the fuel injector pump. Is this true?

I have been given a price of $1,450 for both pumps, plus labor. Is this reasonable or not?

Thanks,

Molson

Usually the injection pump fails due to the lift pump not supplying correct amount of fuel/pressure to the vp44 injection pump. I don't see a signature for you, not sure if you have a fuel pressure gauge, would seriously consider getting one if you don't have one.

Usually have a good price for the pump. Cummins will be alot cheaper than Dodge for the lift pump. Last time I bought one, it was somewhere around $165, been over a year though. Dodge wanted over $300. I am sure some others will chime in and give you some good advice.

You could get the goods for a little less. VP44's are a little over a grand and the lift pump is about what DirtyDodge said, get that from a Cummins dealer or pay double at DC. Performance Diesel Warehouse is where I got my injection pump, best price I could find and be ready for the $400 core charge  , I don't think your quote included that in the remote chance your core is junk.

When dc replaced my injection pump last summer they did not put in a new lift pump, as I had already replaced it, and had good presure that pump was done under warranty.

Not true, find another mechanic! As long as your existing LP is fine, there is no requirement to replace it.

As said above: $1000 for injector pump and $160 for a lift pump.

Go to http://www.boschservice.com/ and find a reputable service center near you and use them ... btw, no affiliation.
