To all you diesel wizards, I have a question: When do the fuel injectors need servicing ?? I have a 2005 5. 9 Diesel with 86,000 on it. Thanx, Roger

Unless you are having an issue such as hard starting, excessive smoking, fuel knock, fuel dilution... then there really isn't anything "serviceable" on the CR injector. I think the new dealeship sales gimick is to sell an "injector flush" ... . IMHO, thats a good way to flush some cash down the toilet. .

Yep, I agree with Wingate.

The short answer to the OP's question is never. Leave them alone until one or all of them need to be replaced.

Roger, in my experience, the vast majority of CR injectors I have seen replaced failed around 125-130K miles. The only "servicing" I would recommed is to use Stanadyne Lubricity Formula. I have had several customer's who have used this since the change to ULSD that have over 200K miles on their factory injectors.

I had over 200k miles on my '06, actually 230k when I sold it. It was still running good as new and had passed a cylinder contribution test with near equal cylinder/injector performance only a few thousand miles earlier. I never used a drop of fuel additive.
