Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Turbo Choice Help!!!

Drips off the bottom of the petcock water/fuel drain valve. THis is my first diesel I got two weeks ago. I changed the fuel filter about a week ago and have noticed a fuel odor in the cab when the cab blower is on "fresh" ever since.

The local stealership says I have to order the whole valve assy, about $80 to get new O-rings. I'd rather replace the canister filter with a spin on AMSoil unit before buying a new valve just for the sealing O-rings!

Any one know the size O-rings I need?

Oh, 97 2500 4x4 5spd.

I had trouble with mine once but it was so long ago I don't fully remember what I did but I'm pretty sure I had to do some smoothing work on the sealing serfaces or sanding something down so it fit tighter? I probably replaced the o-ring but have no clue what size it is or anything. All I know is that it should be pretty easy to fix once you get it apart and see how it works.

I got it apart and replaced the Orings from some found ar ace hardware. The old ones didn't look bad though.

I did find the 2" filter oring that goes on top of the filter and seals the inlet fuel from the outlet fuel will NOT allow the filter to reinstall! It doesn't fit tight enough on the filter and gets pinched between the filter and the filter housing when trying to reinstall. This is a wix filter I installed 2 weeks ago and don't know if this oring was sealing properly or not, because the "helpful" captured nut in the filter housing prevents me from feeling the filter seat correctly.

I am fed up with this crap MOPAR design and will retro fit my 97 to take the screw on 94-96 filter assy. Hell, I can get the WIF/drain sensor for the old filter assy for $20. MOPAR wants $80 for the drain valve and $100 for the damn sensor, Oh and the drain valve is on BACKORDER w/no expected delivery date!

I noticed the WIX website list the 94-96 spinon filters as 20 micron nominal and the 97-98 cansiter typ as 2 micon nominal. I think this is a misprint and even if it is not all 12 valves have the same pump design so the filter rating is not applicable.

I ordered a fleetguard for my current filter getup and will see if they use a better quality oring that won't refuse to mate up with the housing. 15 buks from Geno's as oposed to the 32 bucks O'Reily Auto giged me for the first time.

I am relegating this MOPAR filter housing assy to my soon to be had bed transfer tank for inital filtration.

Oh yeah, I can't spell but you get the intent.

MOPAR around a Cummin's (12V) is like mud around gold!

Closer look!

I thought I had the same problem, replaced the drain valve assy, and then the real culprit showed its face. Filter was cracked just above drain assy, when it finally turned loose, it water proofed the underside of my truck real well for sixty miles! I think Fleetguard had a bad batch of filters, cause a lot of people had the same problem... :D
