Need your infinite wisdom here, gentlemen... . just above the power-steering resavour, and forward of the toggle thingy, is a verticle, cylindrical doo-hicky with a bolt in the top of it. Just below it, is an electrical plug into the block. What is it, and why is it pouring fuel all over my front diff? Many thanks, guys!

Judging from the details, sounds like it might just be the fuel heater/prescreen filter bowl.

Does it have a short rubber hose connected nearby that runs into the lift pump? If so, sounds like one of the O-rings on the fuel heater or filter bowl went bad. (Am very experienced R&R'ing this particular item) Bad news is DC wants about $50 for the filter kit. Good news is Cummins sells the prefilter kit and the top O-ring for less than $8.

Bad news is, you need slender arms, and nimble fingers to replace from the topside, but it isn't all that bad if you take your time and don't RUSH!

Update - solved!

The leak turned out to be the overflow valve banjo... . fuel running down the back-side of the pump and I could only see it comming out the bottom of the pump... thanks for your replies, guys!

Overflow

Glad you found the leak, and I'm doubly glad it wasn't coming from the heater or prescreen. Difference in Level of Difficulty of Access-4. 5
