Fuel leak

I have a fuel leak. Been to dealer once with no results. Going back soon ,can you help wiyh suggestions. It is a 2001 ,2wheel drive dualie. Everything underneath is wet clear back to the rear bumper. Also , for about 200 miles over three mtn passes, a whissle whenI let off on the accelerator. Any help? I know you guys are smarter than most service techs. Ross

I'm not sure about the fuel leak but the whissle could be a loose clamp on the inner-cooler. You should snug-up all those clamps.

Ross, On the fuel leak, first wash the engine down with a mild detergent to remove whatever fuel is on it. Then (this is easier if you have a general idea where it's coming from) use baby powder and sprinkle in the area where you think it's coming from. Crank up and the baby powder will usually give the leak away. Have you checked the back side of the fuel filter, the return line to the tank? I'm surprised you aren't having cranking problems if you are leaking fuel.

Might make sure the hose clamps are tight on the fuel lines. Before I replaced my fuel return line and clamps I had a leak (actually this is what made me aware the return line and factory hose clamps needed replacing). Did not leak at idle, but would leak all over the place once you put it in gear and load up the engine when starting off from a stop. You could have a similar problem where it only leaks when the engine has a load on it and more fuel is being pumped to meet the demand. Dealer probably only looked at it with the truck sitting the service bay idling.



BTW I tried to get the return replaced under warranty, what a hassle. I just did it myself and later took the old brittle and crack return line back to the service dept and placed the it on the counter and asked there opinion. They all said the hose was shot and asked what it came off. I said remember I was in a few weeks ago saying my fuel line was leaking, brittle and cracked and you told me the fuel line "was like new" and there was not a thing wrong with it. The look on their faces was, well priceless. They did not like my pointing out they where a bunch of idiots. Was the last time I went to a dealer for service work
