Ok, I've got a fuel leak coming from somewhere around the filter area but it's not the filter. I've changed the fuel supply & return hoses & it still leaks. It's not coming from the prefilter, so what else can it be? I'm at a loss.

Thanks,

Lonnie.

There's a rubber line running through a metal bracket beside/under the filter. I thinks it's a return line and it's about 14 inches long connecting a steel line running from the tank to a steel line on the pump. I could only find it when laying under the truck looking up at the filter area from under the truck while it's running to see the leak. It's not easy to get at but that's where mine was leaking, it seems the hose rubbing on the bracket eventually wore through.

I guess if you changed the supply and return hoses this probably isn't it though.

Mike

Lonnie,

It might be the same as a leak that I had that was real hard to find. If you will look at your filter bracket you will see two lines on top. Supply from the pump and supply to the injector pump. The first one has a funny little banjo fitting. It is actually a stack of banjo fittings. The small line on top is the leak off line from the injectors. Mine leaked there. I replaced the two rubber coated washers for the small line and that fixed the leak. They are kind of expensive for their size but not too bad. Worth a check. It took me a lot of searching and taking stuff off before I found it.

I believe it is called fuel manifold drain (or something like that).

Joe is right it can leak. Sometimes the metal tubing will leak but the washers are most likely to.

As Joe suggested if you don't have copper washers get them.

Just about every time I get my truck back from my mechanic this connection is leaking. I tighten it up until it doesn't leak.

Easiest way to tell if it leaking is to push on primer button and listen for unsual sound which will be the diesel coming out of the connection.

You can also watch to see if any diesel is coming out of connection or use paper towl and place it the connection to see if it soaks up any diesel.

When I replaced my supply/return lines I was curious about the Lift pump hose. It runs from the preheater to the liftpump. After inspecting this hose and it's various mileage battle scars, I'm surprised the truck even ran.

A search will also show that the O-ring for the push button on the lift pump will also leak. Also, I replaced the filter in the preheater. It turns out the entire assembly was loose allowing lots of air into the system.
