I have a strange problem with the VP44 draining and losing prime, and the only solution seems to be to install a check valve to stop it. The dealer replaced the VP44 and the lift pump, but it still drains.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket inline check valve that is large enough go somewhere in the supply line from the tank to the VP44? There is a rubber hose on the output from the lift pump to the fuel filter and this would seem to be the best place to install it.

The check valve would need to be at least 3/8" and very low restriction along with good back flow seal.

Thanks for the help.

The question is why is it draining?

I have a thought on this. Mine does it. It could be that the tank vent is stopped up... happens to me regularly with all the mud. Could be that the factory left the vent cover on the vent; this happened to some of the '98s and early '99s, but I got lucky with this and did not have this particular problem.

If you have suction on your fuel cap after the truck has been running for a few minutes, I would check these things first.

Just my $0. 02;)

I have replaced the entire tank module with a new one because I had a leak somewhere on top where the fuel lines and vent are.

The vent has been checked, and there is never any suction when I take the cap off the filler neck.

This problem has only occurred in the winter with winter blend fuel. It may be possible that the fuel is becoming gaseous due to a restriction or other cause.

Thanks for your comment. I am still looking.
