Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fuel line Issues...........

I`ve had a few fuel leaks on my truck for quite a while now, and its finally nice enuf weather to be able to do something about it. . Ok, I know about getting Gates Marine hose, 3/8" ID and 5/16" ID. Any specific part numbers on these to help my parts guy out? or a good quick location to get about 15' of each? I plan to replace ALL of the hose, is 15' each enough to do the job for both?



My other main question is connection to the fuel tank. I know about the stock quick connects, and the plastic nipples on the tank are smooth with rings for the quick connects. How do you attach the hose to this? Alcohol clean the connections and hose clamp, using friction? Or will the hose fit over the ring used for the quick connect? Dont need the hose falling off. .



Any other tips would be great from someone thats done this before.

I finally replace my fuel lines full length from the very bottom of the tank to the pump and the return line from the top of the tank to the tube behind the filter. I had been plagued by fuel line leaks in the past. I had suction leaks inside the tank on 2 occasions plus several outside the tank. Too damn many unnecessary connections and different tubing types in there IMHO! The first one in the tank was a real #@$%! to diagnose. For the suction I replace the line in the tank with stainless tubing and bent a 90 in the top. I clamped the new hose to this with a little Permatex smeared on it first. The return line I clamped to the outside of the old plastic nipple again with the Permatex. I used two clamps at each joint. I’m sure you could do the same on the suction if using the original line in the tank. Seems like I did when I fixed it the first time. Never had a problem with my connections.

For hose I bought marine grade hose from the below links since I couldn’t find it locally.

Cool... Thanks Tim. I think i`ll try the permatex stuff, gona see if that stuff is resistant to diesel. .



I just found out that Trident Rubber Inc, the maker of the best (or so Ive heard) fuel line, is right in my back yard. Theyre about 10mi away from where I live... I`m gonna try calling them and see if I can swindle them outa a few lengths of hose... for the right price of course heh. .



I`ll be up to my elbows in diesel soon enough here. . cant stand these leaks any longer. . might just be a weekend job... hmmmmmmmm
