Fuel line leak ?

I've been noticing a diesel smell coming from my truck the past few days, but haven't been able to locate it. Today it seemed alot worst so I pulled the work light out and started the motor and noticed the fuel line going into the delivery valve was dripping. I read a couple days ago on here to make sure they are snug... ... so I checked it and it was tight, but when I went to restart the motor it was spraying fuel everywhere from the line. What would have caused it to all of a sudden start spraying fuel everywhere when the fuel line didn't move? I'm pretty sure this isn't going to be under warranty, but what are the chances of anyone having this fuel line in stock?

By putting some torque on the fitting you deformed it. I'm a little confused about which fitting is leaking. Is it the one from the CP-3 to the fuel rail? If so, which connection is bad... at the CP-3 or at the rail?

My brother said it was the delivery valve? I am not sure the name but the fitting screws into the side of the head? After I checked to make sure that fitting was tight, the fuel line about 3" from there is pouring out fuel.
 
"Delivery valve" is not listed as a fuel system part, and other than the injector supply lines I don't see any fittings that screw directly into the head.



There is a fuel pressure limiting valve, which is the large metal cylinder second in line from the left atop the fuel rail. Injector 1 and injector 6 are fed from lines connected to the ends of the rail.



Anyway, it's a high pressure line leak you've got there. The vehicle will need to be taken out of service immediately and that line must be replaced. There is no way to get it to stop leaking now that it's been deformed. Buy a new line, and use a quality torque wrench to install it. Torque the fittings to 22 ft-lb. And be CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN about it!!!

I just pulled the line off and found the crack. Can these be purchased aftermarket or do I need to go to the dealer? If it is a dealer item what are the chances of them having it in stock? Or can they get it next day?
 
I think it's a dealer-only part. I can't really speak to the probability that they'll have it in stock, though...



If they don't have it, they should be able to get it within 2 days (assuming someone out there has it) if you're willing to pay the shipping.



Any chance you could take a pic of the bad line?

If you can wait, I'll look up the part on my Cummins quickserve account later tonight since you have an '03 like me. I take it the line is the return line off the back of the block?



I had to replace a high pressure fuel line to an injector crossover tube and was surprised that our local Cummins dealer had them all in stock!
