I've got a fuel leak somewhere near the top of the fuel filter housing on my '92, think it's coming from the fuel line the feeds the filter from the fuel pump.

The part is original (I know since I'm the original owner of the truck), so I figured I'd just replace the rusty old thing along with all the necessary washers/gaskets, but I'm having trouble finding a replacement unit. This tube has a "banjo bolt" on the filter end of the tube, so it's not as easy as just using ordinary tubing.

I'm thinking this part must be available from Cummins (not available from the Dodge dealer), but I haven't yet made any headway with my local Cummins dealer.

I also need a replacement Water in Fuel sensor that screws in the bottom of the filter.

Please give me your thoughts on sourcing these parts!

Thanks.

ok, then. How many you want me to send you?

PM me your addy son. You shall recieve!!

You *DO* understand that we replace them when we upgrade the lift pump, right? So most folks have one (or more) laying 'round collecting dust.

I didn't know that, but makes sense to me!

As you have probably assumed, I've never had to replace the lift pump. Almost 200K+ so far :)

I always knew that the folks on this 1st gen forum were the best. Learned that by sitting back and reading all the wisdom over the years ...

PM is on it's way. .

I have a stock line that probably has less dust than most others. But like Greenleaf said, the best option is to replace it with a low pressure piston lift pump.

Double check and make sure it isnt your fuel heater assembly square cut o-rings leaking. That is a common leak point.

Just to finish out this thread with a solution ...

As had been suggested, it turned out to be the square cut o-ring gasket seal or whatever you might call it located above the heater, which itself is located just above the fuel filter. I ran into several people calling it different things, but the best source for me was direct from Cummins. The local Dodge dealers told me they either couldn't get it or they had to special order it. Seemed like they didn't want to deal with it.

Once I talked to a competent Cummins tech, he was able to easily identify what I needed, and had it sent to me via FedEX. I had it within 24 hours and for some reason they sent 3 of them. All three together cost less than $1. 00. Not sure about the shipping costs yet, but I bet it was more than that :)

The Fleetguard part number is 3834185-S. Searching on that number I see where there have been discussions in this forum about this problem previously.

So if anyone has a need for these in the future, I'd be happy to send you one of my two spares. Just PM me.

thanks for the info Guys. when the weather was hot my pressure guage was all over the dial and i noticed a bit of what appeared to be fuel spray near the filter top. now I have a reference point to start looking. It maybe just a square cut gasget problem. Just for info I have looked several places for viton seals and I get this stupid look as ,what is this guy asking for? well there is a box full of various sizes metric at harbor freight. I don,t buy much there but their zip ties do work and they are inexpensive.
