Hey guys! I hope all is going well. I have a quick question about fuel lines.

Is there any reason that I can't(or shouldn't) use a high quality braided (or similar) fuel line from the fuel tank to the lift pump, or at least a place that is more easily accessable<sp>?

I thought I read somewhere, there can be a problem with fuel lines collapsing over a certain distance.

Why? On the RC conversion that I am working on, the tank is an absolute pain in the rear. You real can't get to, or even see for that matter, the fuel lines to check for binding, etc... when you get the tank into it's "cradle". So I would like to use a "flexible" line to make sure there are no problems. The Max, distance would be 3' or so.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks, as usual!

There is no reason you cannot use what you want provided it's fuel rated.

When I did my boat repower I went to a specialty hose shop and had various ones made up per my requirements. I used Parker hose (had the braided wire inside the hose) and the hydraulic screw together style fittings. You need at least one end to have swivel fittings (or whatever they are called).

You really don't need hose this robust, but if you go this way it will last forever.

Or you could use regular autoparts store fuel hose.

concur - you're good to go Andy. You could also just use regular 3/8" steel line and connect the ends via rubber fuel hose. When we took the 6BT out of my truck I disconnected the plastic lines, and I was really surprised at the relatively 'weak' connectors that are at the ends of our plastic lines - I got the impression there wasn't much pressure in the lines going up to the lift pump.

Andy, if you want, I have already made a set of the 3/8" lines for my RC, and I have an awesome tubing bender - you want to come down and we'll whip up your lines in the shop?

Thanks guys. The trouble is getting "rubber" lines the correct lengthbefore you put the tank up in there. Plus, I needed to "re-design" the sending unit because the "top" of the diesel sending unit is a bit bigger than the RC tank. I used the RC top and refabbed the diesel sending stuff to it. To my surprise, it actually worked perfectly.

It's just nearly impossible to see in there once the tank is on the way up. Everyting needs to be connected before raising the tank. I will keep at it though.

Thanks, Sam. I do need to come down sometime. Just wanted to bring the RC down for a good long trip on the hwy to "clean it out". BTW... What's the new toy??

Thanks again guys!
