I need help ,I'm getting 14 to 15 mpg on a totally stock 01' with 120k, four wheel drive. I figure on changing the intake air temp. senser but it not on the intake manifold, the wire harness is their but it just hanging in the air? The MAP senser is located in front of the IAT and it their. I must be confused,Any other idea to increase the MPG??

Do you have auto or manual? Autos seem to get less MPG, the 6 speed seems to get slightly less MPG than the 5 speed. 3. 55's or 4. 10's?

My 3. 55 6 speed got a record of 20 MP ONCE, typical is 16-17MPG.

My wifes 12 valve 5 speed gets 23 constantly. She drives different than I do :-laf

My truck is doin the same thing. . I can't get over 15 mpg for nothin. . last year before winter it wasn't nothin to get 17-20 but over the winter the mpg's take a crap for obvoius reasons but since I don't have to let it warm up for 20 min or more before I leave Its 15 mpg and under no matter what. . If it is this sensor how much is it??? Also just changed lift pump and a new fuel filter was installed last month. . Any imput is appriciated. .

Thank for all the help ,I feel like a fool, the AIT is well hidden at the far end of the engine. I hope this helps.

join the crowd

DStrong, don't feel bad it took me several times looking for this hidden sensor, once you see the wire connector sticking out, you have it made. I took the advice of someone on here to remove it, 13/16" deep socket with a 6" extension and ratchet, works like a charm.

you bet

jeepit,, you are more than welcome. . anytime I can try to help someone on here makes it like a repayment for all the help I have received. This is nothing but a wealth of knowledge... and a lot of neat tips and tricks that you don't find in a manual!!! This is the best $35 I have spent in years!!! :D :D

Fuel Milage

I get less milage on winter grade fuel than on regular fuel. Sounds like your milage is about the same as mine. I usually run from 500 to 1000 miles a week on truckstop fuel only. They use conditioned fuel in the winter months, and when they change fuel, my milage changes. R. C.

changed out AIT

Well i changed out the AIT an compared the resistence values to the new unit and they seam very close to spec. It probably was ok. Additionally i check the air cleaner and found it very dirty. Was running a Fram, what is interesting is the Fram has many more folds in the filter fabric than the Purlator filter, the dirt seams to block the air flow to the back folds compared to the Purlator. Also get much more turbo whin, got to love that!
