Thank you RHildreth for posting your log entries. If you add another column and compute your mileage over a moving window through your data say the last 10 fillups, you can remove most of the variables such as temperature or not filling to the exact same point, etc. This would be a better definition of hand calc'd. Once you do this you can see trends such as the dramatic mileage drops during the winter or the slight increase as the engine breaks in.

Ask and ye shall receive.

This is the column in my spreadsheet for running average fuel mileage. It is calculated off odometer reading with total gallons purchased to date. As you can see I'm stable the last two tanks at 18. 06 mpg.

I forgot to mention the Roktech sensor went on between the 9/17/05 and the 10/05/05 fillups. Not much noticable change iln mpg to me.

AVG 15mpg

Completely STOCK: Just over 9,000 miles on odo: hand calculated average thus far is just under 15 MPG. Daily commuter, 30 miles/day. My trailer, ATV and full load MPG is 11-12. Temp sits at an almost constant 200-210.

for a trip from Prince Rupert to San Felipe I averaged just over 19. 1 mpg. This was calculated on a spread sheet and used the Odometer mileage which checks out good with the test mileages and maps. I also found that the overhead showed approximately 1. 5 mpg less.

This is with the Kore Chase system which reducted mileage approximately 1-1. 5 MPG and the stock off road tires. I normally did not exceed the speed limits and when in town did not use heavy foot on pedal. Mileage on truck is about 22000

I keep track of most of my info in Excel also. Five days a week the wife drives it to work, 6 miles each direction (12 miles daily), 4 traffic signals to get thru, 35-45 mph most of the time. The rest is typically freeway, 55 mph pulling a trailer, 70 when empty. I use odometer mileage and actual gallons to fill to arrive at mileage figures ( the overhead is always 1-2 mpg higher than actual). At 6637 miles to date, my overall average is 13. 48, a bit disappointing. The best tank was 14. 19 (pulling a flat bed car-hauler 55 mph, weighed 3200 lbs. ), the worst was 10. 62 pulling a 25' fifth wheel (6000#?). So far the empty trips have all fallen short. I have checked oil to make sure I don't have an injector leaking, so far so good. Any ideas?

I guess I am lucky so far. My truck has 1000 miles on it. I filled up this morning and got 18. 2 by hand figuring. This was mostly on the highway going to the farm on a hunting trip driving from 68-75 mph. Bed was empty other than some ice chests and a couple of rifles.

Mine's getting low 18's with the Rokktech sensor and 1/3 bottle of PowerService at every fillup. The sensor was worth about 1 MPG and the PS gives me another MPG.

I'm thinking about doing the tone ring mod for a little more timing advance just to see if that helps some more. I'm starting to think timing variations from the factory may be the reason for the wide range of mileage figures out there but there are lots of other variables (the biggest probably being the driver). That said, the route I take to work is pretty good for MPG. It's 35 miles, 55 MPH speed limit, 3 stops. The only bad part is a couple big hills. I've found the best way to drive my truck is right at 55, where the torque converter has just locked up in 4th and I'm turning about 1400 RPM. If there are really people out there getting over 20, I should be able to as well.

My '03 QC sb 4x4 48re 3. 73 was getting pretty consistent 21-22 mpg empty running 65-70mph. I keep wishing I had the $$ and garage space to keep it too. It ran hard enough stock that the dealer thought for sure it had a box installed, but it was stock.

My '06 has under 5k on it right now. It is getting 14-15 over the last 1000 miles which is a little better than when brand new. I am praying that it comes up as far as my '05 did. The '05 around 30k miles was getting 17-18, I would be happy with that.

What is Better Or would net better MPG?

I drive 6 miles to work and 6 home. If I start it and head out taken easy cause it is a cold truck by the time i get to work the gauge is 1/2 way between 140* and 200* so it dont really get up to operating temp. and My MPG suffers im sure.

Now if i start it and let it warm up say 10 Min. do you think it would help my MPG or the warm up would hurt it? Running at operating temp Im sure would help But how much would it chew up warming it 10 min a day.

I don't think you will gain anything by letting it idle. The better combustion efficiency from a warmer engine won't gain you enough on that length of drive to make up for the fuel you are burning in the driveway. You can do a test to see how your overhead mileage drops on a warm-up.

My truck doesn't seem to warm by idling anyway. The only thing that works, especially if it is really cold, is driving it. You might try blocking some of the radiator.

If you don't already, plug it in for half an hour to an hour. The electricity will cost about a nickel, and it should save you more than that in fuel, oil, wear, fouled injectors...
