I had a 90W250 with a 5 speed and it got 26 MPG on a trip and that wasn't babying it it had 4. 10 gears it normally got around 20 MPG around town and the only mod done to that was the fuel was wound up that was before I knew anything about the TDR.

My 91. 5 W250 with 3. 54 gears and a 5 speed gets upwards of 18 to 20 MPG the last time I checked that was before I installed the PODs and the BHAF.

I think the reason my truck with the 4. 10 gears got better millage was that the engine didn't have to work as hard. Anybody else have their own theory on this

4.10

Bechtold:That doesn't make sense, the engine is working "harder" and revving higher cruising down the road at the higher RPM it's turning with the lower gears. . so thus your fuel mileage should be less  If it's a 3. 55 geared rear end it would be turning less and working less while on the highway>

With the taller gears the engine is spinning slower but with the lower gears the engine isn't working as hard to pull the same load because it dosen't use as much fuel as with a taller gear.

for example if you have two trucks with the engines set up the same one with 4. 10s and one with 3. 55s the guy with the 4. 10s dosen't have the give it as much fuel to get the load moving. The same thing happens when you pull a hill the engine isn't working as hard and yes it is spinning faster.

Where can I get a dial indicator for checking my pump timing ? I know part of my issue is short runs of 2-12 miles, combined with the wind resistance of the canopy on the bed. I recently changed the fuel filter, but that didn't improve the mileage. I personally am leaning toward the injectors, due to the truck having not been run for nearly 2 years.

I average around 20-21 around town in my 92 D250 clu cab with a aluminum cap,and a NV4500. I just checked my last tank full which was burned over the last month, and it was 18. 5 mpg. I have an auxilary tank, and don't drive the truck too much anymore, and when I do it is mostly short trips(which I know is bad for it). I use power wervice in the tanks just like the PO,and oh yeah I love this truck. Just over 2 years ownership, and I still love jumping in it.
