Does everyone with the Auto notice that even if you just ease into the throttle when the light turns green, the truck seems to hang at 2000rpm through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? Seems at slow speeds it's forever before overdrive kicks in and the rpms drop.

I've taken to getting out of the hole fast, and right after 2nd gear shifts in, I release the throttle, and as the turbo spins down, the truck continues to accel slightly, then shifts to OD, at which point, I ease into the throttle keeping it in OD. Probably destroying the transmission, but hopin for improved economy.

BTW, had TSB 18-037-04 done last Friday, over head mileage increased to 21mpg at 70mph on the highway, but hand calc still works out ot 17. 7 with winter blend. (I know, I know, that's good, just seems that the tsb only increased the computer. I'll know for sure when summer fuel is in, as I was getting almost 19. 5 with the summer blend with the cruise set to 70.

AS for the 80MPH mileage... ... well, I haven't tried that, as Officer Friendly would definately write me a ticket here in good old NYS. I'll try driving with the cruise set to 60, and see what happens, but I just get ansy about getting home from work.

All in all, Good mileage. Considering my 2004 Toyota Tacoma got a whopping 17mpg with a six in it! (That's why I traded it in three months later. )

I dont know about yall, but I am not very happy with my mileage. I haven't seen any recent posts on this so I thought I would throw it out there. I am averaging 15. 28 hand calculated, I have 6000 miles on the truck now, it is a six speed and these mileages have been with stock tires running at 75-80 on the interstate, I keep my edge on level 1, seems to me my mileage has went down after the addition of the edge. Any thoughts?

2004. 5 with afe intake, edge ez 3. 73 rearend, and an exhaust coming soon.

I saw my mileage decrease with the Edge. In all fairness, I think the problem is my foot, not the box.

I'm looking forward to getting an Attitude/Juice so I can adjust power in cab as well as have the benefit of fuel timing and fuel pressure. With the new set up, I will select the lowest level for normal driving and expect to see improved fuel economy because of timing enhancements. With a straight fuel box I don't see any way economy could improve, only get worse.

Bs?

19-20 mpg @ 72 mph freeway. If keep it under 2000 rpm on the state roads at 60 mph, I get 22-24.

I'm sorry, but I have to call you on this one. I don't quite believe Cumminz either. I don't mean to ruffle feathers, but I just don't believe 24 MPG. I haven't read any further down this thread, so hopefully I'm not restarting something. My '04. 5 weighs 7500 pounds. No matter how carefull I drive it, I haven't been able to get better than 18. 4 MPG, FOR A WHOLE TANK. Yeah, I've hit reset while on the highway, and saw 21 for a fleeting second, in fact, I saw 99. 9 going downhill once.

Don't take it personal, but an automatic isn't going to get 21 either. My '02 never got the mileage I'm seeing with the 6-speed. I don't think it does any good to lead someone into believing they're getting 8-12 MPG worse than some people on here. Yes, anything above 2000 RPM is going to suck the fuel down, but setting someone's goal at 22 to 24 MPG is ridiculous. You have to remember how much iron you're pushing down the road (i. e. 75-80 MPH is not ideal for fuel efficiency).

I only say this because I've had some ignorant Ford people tell me they can get 29 MPG. If we are to be 'enlightened' diesel owners, shouldn't we be honest as well?

I am with Blakers. I get the mileage he does. Of course our trucks are pretty much the same truck. I just drove from Athens Ohio to Lancaster... . round trip. 22. 5 mpg. Running around 65 mph. My only mods are a cleaned out silencer tube, Air filter and MBRP Dual exhaust.

blakers said 60mph; 22-24mpg. I believe that. You can certainly get those mileage numbers at that speed. Increase that speed by 25%; increase the resistance and drag coefficents for that speed; you're getting around 16-17. Would'nt ya know it; that's a 25% drop. Out here in Nebraska with our 75mph speed limit I run 75-80. I get 16-17mpg. On a really good day with no wind or hills and the cruise set with no 'playing' I can get closer to 19-20. But that's an anomaly; 16-17 at those speeds would be my typical.

We even run 70 with stop and go; city/hwy mix. That's rush hour; speep up; speed WAY up; slow WAY down; speed WAY up; ... still average 15-16 but will drop as low as 14 if lot's of city driving -- always with 'some' hot-rodding mixed in. I think with half a dozen 1/4 mile drag runs I still had 15mpg from that tank.

I expect to see a drop next week when the leveling kit and big tires go on... all factors.

Want amazing mileage? Slow down!

I'm with Udaloy on this. Naturally, variations such as truck weight, drive train, and the speed driven will influence the mileage.

All that said, the best highway mileage I ever saw on my 2nd G '95 2WD was 22 MPG while on cruise control going for a 400 mile run on flat interstate.

I had everything going for me that day. A truck with good gearing for mileage, an automatic with lockup, a fairly light truck, a twelve valve engine, and cruise control at 65 MPH.

Our new trucks weigh more than the old ones did. We have more power avaiabable with the 24V engine, and they do seem to get poorer fuel economy as a result.

The only way I can imagine him getting 24 MPG is running 55 MPH on a flat highway for a couple hundred miles and a 30 MPH tailwind. Otherwise It isn't going to happen. Period. I've owned four of these trucks (91,95,99,03) and I know what they can and can't do.

On flat level ground, highway driving 2WD, regular cab, 65 MPH with a 3rd G you might average 20 MPG.

My '03 with the quad cab abd 4X4 will run the highway about 18. 5-19 at 65 MPH on a good day without the Edge.

If you believe your fuel computer then you might think you were getting better mileage. I believe in the fuel computer as much as I believe in Santa.
