Common rail trucks only please.

Only those who tow with a smarty please respond.

Want to find out if buying a smarty for my common rail 06 will gain me any fuel mileage while towing.

Do not care about power gains or mileage gains non towing.

Do not want hear say or a friend of a friend thing. I only want your personal towing numbers.

Please, hand calculated mileage only. NO OVERHEAD READINGS.

well mine is an 03, but on a recent trip towing about 10k about 600 miles round trip with about 150 miles of moderate grades I averaged about 16. 5 mpg with the smarty... i made the exact same pull with a Bullydog Power Pup about 5 months ago and ran about 15 mpg and made the pull with no chips at all about 6 months ago and was at about 14. 5... so it looks like the smarty helped alot...

driving empty however, my mileage has either not improved or maybe gone down a little, but that is only because I have been hotrodding it so much... i have had the smarty for 2 months and it is still so much fun, I still hotrod it around just like the day i got the Smarty!

who sells the smarty & is there any modifications like Gauages Intake or exaust changes oxigen sensors that will need to take place.

well assuming you don't have any transmission upgrades I would say you ought to stick to the lower settings, probably #1 or #3 (5 at the very highest with no mods), with either the stock or mild torque management download... I have a full DTT so I tow on #7 with the wild TQ but I would definitely not recommend doing that to a stock transmission... . it has a ton of power down low and i am sure that would quickly shred a stocker, especially with any kind of a trailer load. Also on the higher settings you will start hitting the upper limits of egt's on hard pulls with a good load, and that is with exhaust and intake done...

What setting should I use for towing my 6000' travel trailer for best mpg?

I asked the same question on another thread and was advised by one of the guys that sell the smarty to leave it on SW1 for towing with a stock truck. I'am not sure what the recommendation would be on say a 03 or 04 truck which has less stock power.

Simply amazing... You can do better towing a 10K load than mine ever got empty!

yeah... i hate that about these trucks pwr2tow... one truck will get phenomenal mileage and the exact same year and build of truck will get 4 mpg worse... i have no idea what it is. Possibly area, style of driving etc. ???
