Okay, after a few tank fulls (last one being 19. 2 gallon) that was showing 340 miles from the previous tank and the fill up after was 19. 2 gallons. . Now i might be crazy but i also think my fuel guage isn't working exaclty right but what is the average mileage for the 30 gallon tank for some of you guys with the 12Valve...

I know with a 34 gal tank and 410 rears on my '00 i can and have gotten 620 miles from a tank and that was pushing it alittle i believe...

What should i be seeing with the 5 speed and 354 in the rear?

winter fuel about 16. 7 mpg back and forth to work 11 miles heavy traffic on the road 18 if under 65. in the summer about 1. 5 better :D

17. 7 mpg looks pretty good to me. My truck usually gets 16-17 in normal stop and go, run around driving. This time of year the mileage goes down from longer warm up times, blended fuel. My truck will see 20 mpg when I run the tank out going down the interstate 70-75 mph.

I think you are in the ball park, and really if you figure your 00, they are about the same.

okay so if my math is even close, at this rate i should get somewhere in the neighborhood of 531 miles per tank. . Well i do know that my fuel needle isn't exactly right but coming up a steep hill into the house last night the low fuel light came on, so i know it is working also, as soon as i topped the hill and down the other side it went off and didn't come back on for the last 2. 5 miles into the house.

sounds good, yeah i figure on a long trip this truck will surpass the '00 in fuel mileage, can't wait until my next trip to PA.

The most I've ever gotten out of my 4X4 dually is 14 or 15 mpg, so I think you're doing alright. My last truck, a 1990 with single rear wheels got around 17 in town and up to 19 on the highway.

FWIW, 1st gen fuel tank is 30 gallons, low fuel light set to come on at 1/5 tank= 6 gallons left in tank. My gauge never goes all the way to full. A good thing though, cause it keeps me from letting it get too low as it drops down quicker, since full on my gauge = 3/4 tank. Plus who can afford to completely fill a 30 gallon tank:mad::rolleyes:??? I usually fill up when it gets to half tank. Winter mileage sucks.

my 12 valve, 1997, allmost allways averages out to be 20. I winter a little less, about 17-18. But highway, and around town right around 20, when filling, the first time the pump stops is usually exactly on 20 mpg. Kinda strange but im happy with it. Cousing and uncles first gens, if pushing them can get almost 600 to a tank. hope this helps.

went and filled back up about an hour ago... miles out of the last tank 358... filled today with 20. 009 gal... which comes out to 17. 89mpg roughly minus all the extra numbers...

I know the low fuel lite came on going up a steep hill and went back off after leveling back out, so im guessing somewhere around 8 gal left in the tank since Bgilbert said the lowfuel lite comes on with 6gal left. . my lite went back off after leveling out the fuel in the tank, take in mind i found out that i can't fill this one up like the '00 due to fuel coming out the vent hole, thats what i do on the 24valve, could be the reason i am able to get 620 miles from that truck.

Just some figuring and during winter around 500 miles from the 30 gal tank and that is pushing it as i don't want to suck up any drugs from the tank if any exist. . Take in mind pushing to 500miles would be a only have to situation. I can't wait to take it on the interstate for a 500 mile trip just to see what it will do.

Thanks for everyones input, greatly appreciated, i know im well within the ballpark figures on this 12Valve engine for fuel consumption.

The 1st gen has a low fuel light?

Interesting this is my fifth diesel... and my fourth first gen and I have never seen a fuel light come on in any of my 1st gener's

The only things on the left I have seen are water in fuel, wait to start and the brake one.

I can drive for many miles after the Low Fuel light comes on, but I don't recommend doing it very often. It can really put a kink in your tail when you start down a long gtrade with a 14k gooseneck in tow and find that you not only have run out of fuel, but have no power steering /power brakes. Can get real hairy, but don't ask me how I know...
