Bought this ETH/DEE on 3/3/01. First tank I was not at all impressed with the mileage -- 16. 73 mpg. Second tank I saw some improvement -- 17. 56. Third tank more improvement -- 18. 23. On the fourth tank now and I can safely say this one will be over 19+. I am confident that this truck will meet and excede the 20 mpg mark when the weather get us into summer fuel. This has been all combination of city, woods running, and highway miles. By the 1st of April I hope to have it's first tow miles put on her. Weather is not melting the ice dam in front of the 5ver fast enough. mid 30's to low 40's all week.

I gotta throw in a few cents here... . it kills me that people aren't happy with 17 and 18 mpg. These are 7000 lb trucks!

My friend at work has a silly Tundra and gets 14-15 mpg mixed driving. He can't stand the fact that I'm getting 18+ in my rig - all I can do is smile #ad

I just don't get it..... I've got 6K on my truck, and have never seen over 16MPG, Fine with me!... ... I,ve got a smile on my face when I drive it. . EZ on 2, DD II's, disabled waistgate, Bill's VB/TC, and LSD 4. 10's... Haven't had a truck pull like this in a looooong, loooooooong, time. Big fun!

I'm with Scooby. And I'm not being critical as I'm one who has been "disappointed" by not averaging better than 16 mpg. These are heavy trucks and I think we expect more out of them than physics dictate is possible. It doesn't help that the 12V engine got better fuel mileage. But like I've said in another post, my fuel mileage is starting to nose up. Maybe it just takes time. Congrats on your mileage for the new beast. That kind of news is always good to hear.

Depends how you drive it. Those of you out west have higher speed limits than we do here in the Mid-west. I dont religiously red-line on every shift. I drive for the best fuel comsumption -- out grew my hot rodding days years ago. Speeding tickets, higher insurance, and kids at home slowed me down. Bought the truck to tow, not race.

I was consistently getting within . 5 mpg of what the trip computer was giving me... usually 18-19 in town and 20+ on the freeway. Happier than all get out with that!!

Mildly bombed the engine and lo and behold, my mileage suddenly increased about 2 to 3 mpg across the board, according to the trip computer. #ad
Alas, cross-checking it with simple math, like I have always done, it is now about 3-4 mpg less than what the computer says. #ad
Anyone else had this experience?

My 2000 is getting good mileage to me. on the highway i get 19-20 easy just have my foot in it. in the city i get betwwen 16-18 depends on the foot in the pedal. i happy as heck with it.

When talking about fuel mileage, I have noticed a small (maybe big) discrepancy in apples-to-oranges. It was killing me that some were getting 20-22mpg while I was strugling to get 16mpg in the city. Living in east Tennessee, we are used to lots of hills. As we say at times... . it's 22 miles to work and uphill both ways (or it seems). Having to climb all those hills sure makes for lousey fuel mileage. I've started paying closer attention to where posters live when talking about fuel mileage. I've decided that I don't live in a flat area, so 22mpg, even on the interstate, I will never see. Wish I could though #ad
Milk it for all it's worth!

maybe most of the guys complaining about fuel milage are like me- going from a 2500 to a 3500 and #ad
and then #ad
and we forget (duh!) the 3500 is a bit heavier- ya I'd like the 19-20 solo and the 14 towing that my 24v 2500 had (stock and sick) but the 15 solo and 10 towing on my 01 3500 eth is still better than the gas alternative- 9 solo and 7 towing and that funkey suck sound #ad

Anytime you upgrade injectors or a box, your giving it more fuel then the "computer" sees therefore it thinks your getting better milage. Have you honestly been driving it the same since you added your BOMB? Driving style will influence mpg most... . nast NE cross and headwinds don't help.

Leslie said ya need to talk to me..... call my cell tommorrow. I'll be out and about... . and working 11pm to 7am saturday and sunday nights (going to KC Sunday during the day tho).

Oh well, didn't get the 19+ it looked like it was going to do, only 18. 56 mpg figured by hand.

My trip computer on this truck calculates out about 1. 5 mpg less that what I am actually obtaining. The "99" was within a few tenths of the actual mileage.

I finally busted the 19mpg mark!
Nearing 10k miles on the odo, took a trip to Texarkana from houston empty, recorded 19. 5 mpg.

Took a "little" trip yesterday to take the daughter back to school.
Wash. D. C. to Lynchburg, Va.
Topped off with fuel outside D. C. , Topped off again on return trip, same station, same pump. (used approx 1/2 tank). Did the math, 17. 7mpg!! Not too shabby for a stone stock auto dually w/ 4:10 rear with 10k miles. (No cap or bed cover) Ran 64mph with cruise on 90% of the time.
Gawd I love my truck. #ad

I don't know how I'm doing now but before bombing I was getting 21 on the hiway and 16-18 going back and forth to work with an auto. Maybe I had a good one. Since the bomb hit I haven't been on a long run but I think I can do it alot faster. Mike
