How to add extra fluid in Getrag transmission

I sold the Wagoneer and bought a cherry Ramcharger to do this project with. Much easier swap. Plus I am tired of spending big bucks trying to make a Jeep into a Dodge Cummins truck. I love the looks of the Full size jeeps, but that is all they have going for them, looks.

I have most of the parts I need in place to do this. Still doing research and scrounging for the last bits.

I'll post up progress as it proceeds.

Wow, two Cummins RamCharger project threads in the same week! Dang, this is making my Scout dream harder to resist! Problem is, I'd have to sell old Red to do it. That truck is stone-reliable and I just hate to part with it. Oo.

Awesome!! Pop top or 81+? If I were going for max mileage in mine I'd probably stick with the RC frame and go 5 on 5. 5 44 front and build a 9" for the rear. Just to keep it all light.

Post some rc pics!

Oh Man I wish a Pop Top. I have been looking a long time and couldn't find anything that did not need a lot of rust repair that was reasonable.

I bought a one owner 86 with 84,000 original miles on it. Runs perfect as is so I can drive it while I work on interior stuff and get the 2500 2wd drive front end stuff ready to swap and the Dana 71 rear.

Oh cool. So you are gonna do 2wd then. There is a guy here in alb fixing to do a similar swap. He has a clean as can be 92 2wd. Mileage is his goal as well.

Do you still have the first gen 60/61 fronts laying around?

Keep in mind that the NV4500HD does not respond well to "lugging" especially in the lower RPMs - 1400 or so. Even with the 5th gear "fixes" out there the lack of a fully splined main shaft can create a 5th gear failure. There is a solution for the 4X4s but not the 4X2s.

Yes, I have 2 Dana 61's laying around with the Dana 71 rears to match. I also bought some ford Van Dana 60's with the 3. 07 R&P for spares for the front cause you can't buy them anymore.

As far as the 5 speed is concerned, I will be using the stock 2wd Getrag which has given me zero issues over the last 5 years in the truck it is coming out of. My only complaint about it is a sloppy shifter.

I'll be swapping over to the NV4500 sometime in the future and my transmission builder tells me that the aftermarket has responded to all the issues of the NV4500 and besides these, doing a cryo job on the internals helps a lot.

I'll find out the reality of this in the future.

Hmm, somebody once told me the Ford 60 axle shafts didn't have the same spline count. I guess if you're only stealing the ring and pinion (no cluster gears) you'd be OK? I'm not positive. I may have been fed bad info.

Oh, and you may want to start another thread on this buildup. We've drifted a bit off the title. I'm sure others would be interested in this RC conversion.

Yes, you are right. The only thing I can use out of the 3. 07 Ford Van axles is the R&P. Nothing else is the same except maybe the diff cover.
