From everything I have read, most people with a 24V truck are getting 17-18MPG out of their trucks. I must have gotten a "Wednesday" truck because I got 21. 05MPG empty (except for baby junk) last friday on a trip and 17. 26MPG on the way back with about 150lbs of baby junk and 2000lbs of firewood in the back.

Not that I'm complaining at all, but what's the deal? What is everyone else getting empty? Thanks.

I just filled up this morning and it was a little over 20 empty.

Michael

Edit---Sorry, I think you wanted 24 valves and I'm missing some.

Computer or calculated

Mileage is a combination of many variables, the most important ones are speed and weather.

The thing is you must average many tanks of fuel over many thousands of miles to get an accurate calculation. This is because of the fuel foaming, and trapped air in the tank, and how much time you take to truely 'top it off'. Leave a gallon of air or foam in the tank and calculate your mileage!! It will seem pretty good, but it's not real.

And DON'T believe the overhead trip computer. I've had six of these CTD's and none of the overhead computers told the truth! Every one was optimistic by at least 1. 5 MPG when compared to the hand calculated miles/gallons.

I have had tanks that with careful 'topping off' at the first and second fill-up and a significant tailwind, and conservative driving [lots of police around, or the elderly folks in the truck] that have calculated out to be 20+ mpg, but this is a 'rigged' measurement. It's not real world

My trucks have all averaged 16 mpg around town and 17-18 on the highway. The way I drive now, and with the fuel I can put through the engine, I'm getting about 15. 5 most of the time. This is about 70% highway miles [probably averageing 85 mph, with many blasts to 100+] :D :D I can't help myself!!

If you want great mileage, drive at about 60 mph, and don't try to maintain speed up hills, just let it kind of slowly decelerate, and then let the speed build up downhill. If you don't get killed in a 'Road Rage' incident, you will get great mileage.

For me I'm amazed that I can drive my truck [7400#] like I do and get several mpg better than my buddy with a 5. 2 litre dodge 1500 [5500# or so]. He just groans when we compare mileage. Much less the performance difference!

Greg, you'd prolly get that truck down to about 6800#'s if you'd loose all that lead!!!:p

As fer my truck, at 7800#'s, I'd get alot better miliage if I could keep my foot off the floor! Miliage, who knows what the he!! I get, it's gets better than a gasser and thats all that matters to me. ;)

Later,Rob

I must have got a Monday morning truck, or a Friday afternoon one.

I get 14 empty and 11 towing 8K.

Oh well, still better than a gasser of this size. Should get a little better with miles.

At the last fuel stop I had 24,359. 4 miles on the truck. I have put in 1,270. 8 gallons of fuel for an average of 19. 168mpg.

As you see I have a two wheel drive std cab, so there is some weight savings there compared to most.

The best mileage I have seen for one tank is 22. 70 and the worst I have gotten on one tank is 13. 87 towing.

I just picked up my new truck and drove it from TX back to WV. Got a 2002 2500 quad HO 6-speed. Granted most of the trip back was on 2 lane doing 50-70 and flat but there was about 400 miles of interstate. I did five fillups and got 20. 6, 23, 21. 8, 20. 1, and 21. 5. I'm sure that now I'm back in WV going up and down a lot those numbers will go down some. But I must say I'm very pleased with the results so far.

Now that my truck is starting to break in (13K), I'm getting about 18 MPG freeway driving around town at about 64 MPH. Note that I have 4. 10 axles and the heaviest 2500 curb weight available (4x4, LWB, 6 speed, QC). That's better than my '98 Grand Cherokee V8. Towing the 5er I get 11 - 12 MPG.

A low of 19. 2 and a high of 21. 7 for 1700 miles by top up and calculate method. The computer has been off up to 0. 2 I must have got a Wednesday truck. Can't wait for it to break in. :D

To me it seems to be all about speed. At 55mph I can get 22mpg no problem. At 65 I can get 18 easily, and it goes downhill from there. These figures are empty and if there is a headwind that really kills the milage.

I go about 680 miles before the little light comes on and tells me I need fuel. I can usually put in about 28 gallons when the light comes on. So if that's right then I get about 24. 2mpg. I don't think the odometer is right so I figure I get about 20mpg or somewhere around there.

Drove about and hour two weekends ago to go camping and pulling about 7,000lbs of camper and the rest of the house:rolleyes: I only used a 1/4 tank of fuel. :) Pretty good for the hills I climbed and considering I had the cruise set on 70mph. :D

Mine was 14-17 mpg-combined- highway ,till I modified it. Now more Miles /gallon-- 17-20. This is actually calculated and the overhead is now high by 11%.

It will turn 10,000 miles this week. It is 11 weeks old.

Can some one kidnap me and leave me abandoned at MUNCIE!!

I'm going to feel guilty if I don't work thru this weekend on my sons house. Of course I'll feel guilty for missing MUNCIE again.

Thank You!

I have no mods either and the mileage I calculated was by hand. I don't have an overhead console. Also, I fill up until I can see the fuel in the filler neck so I don't have many air bubbles. I have calculated almost every tank of fuel and my foot has a lot to do with the mileage I get but I have never been below 16. Thanks for all the replies.

I usually get 17-19 average... No mods on the truck. And 13-15 in town. Best milage to date was 25mpg. Eveything has been calculated by hand. I love my truck. :D

tried to edit previous post

I forgot to mention in my previous post about averaging slightly above 19mpg for total mileage on my truck that I drive between 70-80mph anytime I am on the highway. I don't think that is too bad. I hope it gets better with a few more miles. That would be icing on the cake.

No doubt the type of driving you do makes a huge difference. If I'm just back and forth to work (about 50 miles round trip) I can get over 20. If I do a lot of running around town with stop and go, it can go down to the 16s. I've had lows of 8. 5 and highs of 11. 5 towing 7,000# travel trailer. The lows usually included 75mph on the interstate. Ironically the 11. 5 comes pulling in the mountains when I slow down. BTW, my trip computer is nearly dead on every time. When it is off, it's no more than a 1/2 mpg and then it estimates low.

Finally got a chance to check mpg on my rig. Drove 4500 miles last couple of weeks and averaged 10. 8. I feel this was great considering the cabover box that makes the truck 10. 5' high and with the fitfh wheel connected, motorcycle in the box, and 100 gal. of fuel it weighs 20530. Did notice a 10% increase in mpg slowing to 65 vs 75. Ran the Blue Chip box at 27% most of the time.
