What can I do to increase my fuel millage? Planning a long trip into Canada

where fuel is $4. 00 +. I have stock plate forward, timimg @+15. I won't be pulling anything, so don't need extra power. Will putting the plate back help?

Control the boost and egt's with the right foot. If you can manage with 15#'s or less, you will do ok. Putting the plate back may help, but probably not much if you drive easy.

Moving the plate will only help if you have a heavy foot. It is only controlling your maximum fuel so if you don't ever get near wot, it won't matter.

The biggest thing that you can do is regulate your speed. Your windage goes as approximately the square of your velocity so it really hurts you to go fast. If you are not in a rush, go 60 or so and you will get great mileage.

There are several things that you can do to your driving style to improve mileage. The biggest one is anticipating. A lot of people accelerate up until the point that they hit the brakes when coming up to a light or stop sign and this is really wasteful. Also, not using wot helps a lot. Since you have a manual, gear selection is also important. A lot of people lug their engines then wonder why they don't get good mileage. This topic has been discussed many times and does make a difference.

As for things to check on your rig, the biggest one is making sure that your tires are properly inflated. Also, removing any unnecessary weight or windage will help. If you want to get real picky, you can make sure that none of your brakes are dragging too.

Definetly drive the speed limit, or maybe a little under for the best mileage.

When you modded your plate, did you change any settings in the AFC at all? Either changed the starwheel setting, or by sliding the afc housing forward? That will give you more fuel in low rpms, where you could be wasting it. The afc doesnt mess with highway speeds though.

I dont see any kind of air filter mod in your sig. I would highly recommend a BHAF for better mileage. The stock setup is too restrictive. More air is a good thing.

EKlem has a good point about changing your driving habits. . My wife loves to drive fast up to a red light, it drives me nuts! I cant get her to change, i dunno. . i gave up lol

using an additive will help boost cetane and should give you a little more mileage. .

good luck
