I know this has been beat to death, but has low mileage been worked out?

We are thinking of getting a second truck for the wife and since I don't think there is any new 555s around anymore it would have to be a 600,any thoughts would be helpful. . Thanks

4:10's will give less mileage than 3:73's, Unless your planning on bombing it your looking at 12's around town and at best 16's on the highway with 4:10's...

I have 4:10s and get between 14. 5 and 15 . 5 around town and roughly 18 to 20 highway. If I had it to do again though I would go with the 3:73s for the better top end.

Ken, do you have an AFE as well? What was your mileage prior to the flash? I'm getting mine done next saturday, and I can regularly get 17. 5 to 18. 5 on the highway on #2 deisel fuel. I've been thinking about installing an AFe Proguard 7.

Thanks!

Chris

My latest highway mileage @ 65-70 mph is 18. 8 and around town has hit 15. 2 mpg. Not the greatest but its alot better than a big block Chevy. Hopefully it will improve with age and miles. :p

4. 5 600 W/auto 4X4 LB 3. 73 10,000 miles TSB has been done AFE Progaurd 7 I pull a 3000 lb single axel wells cargo construction trailer daily to work. I drive less that 5 miles to and from work pulling the trailer. I get 12. 5-13m mpg . Pulling my Boat approx 10,000 lbs. In mountains at 5 to 6k feet altitude, I get 13. 5 mpg. Empty freeway driving (still at 4000K altitude and 70 MPH the truck gets 17. 5 MPG. I may try a bully dog power pup to see if it improves the MPG, but it is still over double the milage that my 96 V/10 would get.

Thanks for all the replies, seems the mileage isn't much different than my 555 and that is a good thing... :)

Makes the choice much easier. .

took my first highway trip this weekend and had the cruise control set to 75mph. including some city driving around Chicago with some stop & go, I averaged 17. 5mpg (hand calculated and overhead read the same).

I have the 3. 73 R&P and the six speed.

I have a 04. 5 and I get 17. 5 avg towing 7k 13 mpg I have babyed it to try to get better but 18 was the best so far. Im still better off than with a gas truck

Mine is almost exactly the same as JStraw's numbers. Hand calc'd yesterday after filling up: 15. 38mpg almost all city.

I'm getting about 17mpg in town with my '05 (6 spd, 4. 10 gears, 315 BFGs). My highway mileage is only about 8mpg, but I haven't been on the freeway without the trailer (10k toy hauler) yet.

I get 16 going back and forth to work, 19-20 on the hiway, if I haul 10,000 lb. or so it gets 12 , not bad, it has been doing it for a long time. 382795 miles today. Ya know what the engineers say,,, it takes so many BTU to move your BUT. Depends on how much BUT you have. Oo.

Only had mine for a week. First tank I got 17. 7 both hwy and city driving. Sure beats the 11mpg I got from the 8. 1 gas GMC I traded.

04. 5 6 speed 3. 73 100% stock,

City, empty= 20. 1

Hwy Empty @ 65-70 MPH 22. 8

Hwy Pulling 7k Trailer 15. 8

21,000 and getting better. No flash what so ever. All hand calculated, Overhead usually reads a bit better than actual.
