there must be differences in the ECM calibrations in the different year of trucks that affect the milage. if you look at this thread the higher MPG trucks are 2001 and newer. my 99 gets 16. 5mpg no matter what (except heavy towing). my brother has a 2001 that routinly gets 19 and 21-22 on long trips. except for the year, the truck are the same 4x4 quad cab shortbed... . etc. maybe it is my perception, but i have always been frustrated with the MPG of my truck as compared to the newer ones that are "the same engine"... i say different ECM/fueling/timing software is where it is at.

New out of the box my truck got 21-22 mpg. That was bone stock, 265s and 80% hwy driving (CA H. O. truck). Now I can get 17. 3 commuting all highway. The 37s and 4. 5" lift are NOT mpg adders!:-laf My odo is calibrated to within 0. 1 mile in 100 according to the GPS, so my calcs are pretty accurate! I'm always leary of fueling my truck and getting the tank full, so I fill it til it stops, wait a few seconds, shake the truck, wait, top it and repeat until the shaking doesn't lower the level out of my view down the filler tube! Yeah, I know i should do the vent mod...

I could click her into OD at 75 and kick her up to 105 at 2000. I just cruised for hours then. Montana didn't have a speed limit and with a Passport 8500 I was covered in the states that did care. The mileage wasn't bad then... 15 MPG at 105...

Other than Injectors, I don't see many upgrades for mileage on your rig. Of course there are some abbrevations in your signature that I don't understand. But 105 at 2000 rpm. Do you have a gear splitter? And 15 mph at 105 mph? Thats great but sounds to good to be true. What kind of milage do you get when you back down to 65? Must be in the high 20's or low 30's.

With about 200-600# and a cab level shell and the Quad on econ setting I get between 19-21. 8 running at 1800rpm So I'm not complaining. Stock 265/16 Michelins So far so good

I used to get 18 to 19mpg on ave but it seems like around 200K it started dropping and now at over 270k I am getting 15 to 16mpg. Maybe time to look into new injectors. Still on original VP44. There were times on long trips with declining altitude and/or tail wind that I got over 20. Worst I ever got was 8. 9 hauling 12 - 1500# big round bales with a nasty side wind. Wind seems to hurt my mileage more than hills.

Those bales sure do pull hard with any wind at all. Was hauling 25 round bales of corn stalks/load (moved 260) spring before last with the KW. Only had one day where it wasn't blowing like a mother. Even with a 525 Cat, it wasn't too happy. Pulled HARD!

Got the fan clutch replaced on the '99 day before yesterday. We'll see what happens to my mileage now. Nice to not hear the fan roar 100% of the time. Engine temp should come up a bit as well. The fan had the engine running no more than ~160*.

My dads 99 gets an average of 20mpg on a 40 mile round trip to work and back at 55-60 mph. He has seen as much as 22-23 on interstate trips. It has the auto with 3. 55's and 2 wheel drive.
