The transmission that DC turned down

about a month ago I went through nevada and california, I noticed all the pumps have this stupid springloaded nozzle thing that keeps fumes from escaping out the filler neck. I thought they sucked and wanted to just cutt one off, cause you have to hold the pump nozzle in place, I later got to thinking, arn't the vapors just coming out the tank vent instead?? is this just a feel good solution to a problem that can't be fixed??

I don't know where you were in NV, but here in Reno, I don't recall seeing a diesel pump with the spring loaded thingy on it.

when i lived out in AZ for a about 18 months(back in my gasser days  ), i noticed and wondered the same thing... . its kinda a weird deal. if that boot is not pressed all the way down it wont pump no gas... i guess that satisfies the tree huggers ;)

put still isn't the vapors just going out the tank vent??

what tank vent? all modern gasoline fuel systems are completely sealed in normal operation [there is a vacuum relief valve, and pressure relief valve that will vent once the tank pressure gets too high]. i think now even the pressure relief vent for the tank is plumbed into the charcoal canister to get burned in the engine too...
