2015 Eco Diesel, 1500 4x4, crew cab, ordered from factory received in March 2015.
Just a note, the Eco Diesel truck the dealer had on the lot and wanted me to buy was bought by someone else. Accoding to the dealer they lost the engine at 5,000 miles, oil getting into the cooling system. It took two months to get a new engine. The buyer had so many problems with it after the new engine installation, they traded it in on something else.
Now to my EcoDiesel, I had the dealer change the oil at the recommended 10,000 miles and take a oil sample on orginal oil. They said I was the first to take an oil sample on this engine? They then did the upload so as to stop the hackers from taking control of the new vehices, since that date and time my mileage has went from a consistant 28-29 mpg to 24 mpg being the best. Dealer claims this has nothing to do with either of my problems. This is traveling the same weekly drive with me as the only driver. Also the oil sample showed 4.8% fuel dillution. I've taken oil samples on the new oil, second oil change, at 5,000, and 7,500 miles, both showed 5% fuel in the oil. Changed oil at 17,500, third oil change and will continue take oil samples. Dealer and engineer say this normal for that enigne and the poor mileage is do to the cold weather, 70' F here now and it is doing worse on the milage as it get warmer, 17.8. Contacted oil manufacutre and they stated this is not good for the oil or the engine. 5% dilution = 16.8 oz (2cups) of diesel fuel in the engine oil of 10.5 qts. Talked to many other owners of this same truck and engine, they've had many other problems with mileage being just one of them, 20-24 mpg, but could not conmment on the fuel in oil because they never had the oil sampled.
Checked dip stick right after the oil change, right on the full mark. Today with 22,237 on the vehicle and 5,737 miles on the oil, the oil level is 3/16" above the full mark. Will be doing another oil sample this week and staying with changing the oil at 7,500 miles, which are costly, instead of the 10,000 mile recommened oil change until the fuel/oil dilution problem is solved or I'm convinced that it is not a problem for this engine.
Has ony one had or heard of these two problems? Is it an out West problem only?
Need help and information.

That's a line if I ever heard one about the colder climate . Why do we have intercoolers on our trucks ? to cool the hot air caused by the turbo compressing it . Yes your mileage should get worse as it heats up . Boy that's a lot of fuel in the oil. I wouldn't be happy about that. Yes that has been a problem with the oil coolers breaking inside the block and of course no upgraded parts . Cheaper to put a new engine in . My son owns one but I can't get him to read TDR and stay up on stuff. It's sad they let that V-6 cummins go to Nissan . Good luck with your rig .I'll be following your thread now.

Have not heard of excess oil dilution, but with Cummins back in 07 when they were having initial concerns with after treatment the cut point for oil change was right at 5%. The engine did not measure it but the algorithm was pretty close to 5% when the oil change light came on. Did you add the programmer to the truck that many are running on the 3.0? Excess dilution is usually caused by excessive active regeneration caused by short trip driving especially in cool temps.
As far as the update, it sounds like the radio flash and would not be associated with any engine systems.

The truck is completely stock. They have?? checked my truck against some others on the regeneration and said it regenirates less than the ones they compared it to, including a new one on the lot, but would not give me anything in writing, just verbal-fast verbal at that. I'm using 2.5 gallons of DEF in 6,000 -7,000 miles. I haven't found anyone out here that can show me a oil sample report for this engine. There are a few on line, but they are all less than 2% at the10,000 mile interval. The one the dealer took on mine, at the same time a took one, they will not tell me anthing about it, seams to been lost or someone else has it, etc etc.

Build date of 3/14 with over 61k miles. The oil sample was taken at 60,605 miles my fuel percentage is good, miles on oil was 8562. Kendall GT-1 Full Synthetic Euro 5W-30. My fuel dilution has never changed at all, my last sample was the same. Also, my truck never uses any oil between changes it stays on the full mark

70's shouldn't hurt fuel mileage. Needs to be a lot colder than that( it takes hot oxygen to burn the diesel. The reason they have a intercooler on the truck is for Nox the intercooler is actually a emission control device it cools the oxygen done so less nox is made.

The hotter it is the mpg should be better.
At least looking at my boost gauge when it cold my boost is 2 to 3 pounds more than when it is hot out which means Mule is using more horses in cold weather. Right now at low 70s out at early AM I'm running 8 lbs boost. When I head for home base (Produce Stand) because it is warmer and I have the bed full of produce I run 6 lbs boost doing the same speed(70mph done and back).

Have the injector/seals checked that should be only way you get fuel into oil.

Mechanic at Dodge dealer yesterday told me to stay away from the Eco diesel , said they have 2 in the shop that are vapor locked, and have been in the shop for 4 months, You know I buy a new vehicle so I won't have problems for a few years, my jeep I bought last year has been in the shop since mid- March, Good luck

My truck to date has been flawless. The SCR has been replaced per a TSB, other than that it has not been in the shop for anything.

Looked under the hood at the nisaan with the Cummins . Very nice set up . Dodge you missed out ..........

I mite go look at Nissan with the Cummins and also the ecodiesel with the vm. Can't afford either one but I think I would prefer the Cummins. But I like the 26 to 28 mpg on the highway of the vm. But 20 mph on the highway isn't to bad for a v-8. ( But then again I like the straight 6.

We have a 14 Eco Jeep and the first 10,000 miles was Awesome average per tank was high 26to 28 changed Oil at 10 ,000 and fuel Eco dropped down to Hi 19-20 mpg changed oil at 20 and it picked up a Tad not much . Just did the 33,000 mile oil change and fuel econ. is in the Toilet Still .getting ready to trade it off and see what happen's with the 16's .Not Impressed with the Millage out of the Michellin tires Either .33,000 90% hwy travel and they are about Done .What the Heck Jeep ?

Many of the OEM tire are not the best you can buy. I was assuming the replacements for my 1500 were going to be $300 each but when I looked on Tire Rack the price was $130. So I'm not expecting a long life out of them. I will replace them with a much better tire.

I Figured the Michellin's would be better then 35,000 90% freeway Miles .I'm at 33 right now and if we make it to 35 I will be shocked . but .with the way the fuel econ has taken a dump I may just Dump it and try a 16.
