Since fuel oil and a heavier product than diesel, but closely related can it be used in combination with diesel to increase the latent energy of the fuel?

I assume that complete pre-filtering of the fuel oil would be required.

What kinds of engine problems or maintenance issues might you see using a 50/50 combo.

I know there are some regulatory problems if this were to be used for on road applications.

Any ideas?

I understand that off road diesel and home heating oil are the same. Last time i filled up my farm tanks with off road diesel the driver of the truck told me to order home heating oil instead. Same stuff, just a few cents cheaper. A buddy of mine has been runing home heating oil in his trucks for years. He has put almost 200,000 on a 91 cummins with no problems. He also runs it in his 2 powerjokes. I would be a little more cautious with a newer truck with electronic injector pump. Oh yea, dont get caught with red dyed fuel in your tank!

I also know someone that uses heating oil in his CTD. Filtration is a must, It can be fairly dirty as far as fuel is concerned. It is the same as offroad diesel as stated earlier, but does not have the additives for cold weather added. A good fuel supplement is a good idea this time of year. At around 80 cents a gallon for heating oil I kinda wish I had a boiler tank in the basement, although I would never consider not giving the government their precious taxes

EDIT: fixed spelling error.
