Fuel overfill splash on 13 3500

When I fill the diesel tank on my new 2013 3500 I only fill till the nozzle clicks off. When it does some fuel (maybe a half pint) runs on the ground. There is a fuel vent that is zip tied to the filler tube behind the fender this appears to be where the fuel is coming from. . I really hope that this is not normal. . Anyone else have a similar issue?

I stoppedd into Lithia Chrysler in Billings Mt and they would not even come out to look at it. Kind of poor service!

I had the same problem on a couple of fill ups, seemed like it was when it had the higher speed pump. No I fill on the first or second notch. Thinking the secondary valve where the end of the nozzle goes maybe wasn't engaged far enough and the fuel was just filling too fast.

Maybe reading the owners manual will let me know that my previous 55 years of filling fuel tanks was incorrect?? I am going to try to get to the bottom of this ONE annoying trait of my 2013 truck.

I havent had the fuel running out, my problem is that I can't fill to fast or the pump shuts off. I have to start real slow when filling, sometimes the nozzle will shut off 5-6 times before I can really start filling. I have the nozzle all the way in, but it will still keep shutting off. Seems like it takes forever to fill my 2013 2500.

I had that happen too, and it was the same station each time. Changed to a different station and that stopped too.

Something to think about... Let's just say diesel is 6 cents per gallon cheaper at the other place. You're looking at about 1. 86 difference on a 31 gallon tank. Worth it to me. That's what I did tho. Just move on to the next station.

Soooo, this is considered acceptable then? I really like my '13 but filling it is a pain in the fanny and the overlflow thing on the ground is an added bonus. I've tried three different large diameter nozzles in three different states and I get the same result of not being able fill except by hand and not on the first detent.



Anyone else smell raw diesel after idling over five minutes after driving a long time? Happened twice to me: once at 9500ft at the stoplight on the Beartooth hwy and once at lower altitude. I only smell it after getting back underway like fuel is dumping somewhere.

I haven't gotten the fuel burp but do have to fill slowly. I am considering getting a piece of thinwall steel tubing to shove down the filler neck through the two flaps, hoping it will channel the fuel into the smaller diameter transfer pipe from the big diameter chamber at the top.

As long as I stop filling on the first click off at the station I have had no issues for the last 6-7 fills.

I've found that you have to slow things way down when you start to hear the tank topping off. If you don't it will burp and slobber fuel on the ground. Seems there is a drain in the filler neck to allow any thing that gets past the first flapper door to drain out and not end up in the tank. If the fuel splashes above the lower flapper door it will pour on the ground. This is progress? Guess the EPA is ok with it... . Lol

Same here! Truck pumps are especially difficult. I love the truck but hate the fuel filler!

I guess the good news is that the tank is so small, you will get an aftermarket tank like Transfer Flow (I got the 75 gallon TF for the short bed) and not fill up very often.
