Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated on this topic. I have pulled the bed off and am tring to figure out how to improve this. I have the piston style pump which holds around 16-18 psi until I run it down the 1/4 mile, then it's down to 3 psi. :(

I would increase the size of your fuel line pick-up to the pump. Example if it is 1/4 inch I. D. , move up to 1/2 inch I. D. on the input side and 3/8ths on the out put side. You also might try putting in a parrallel pump that you could have kick in for when you are doing quarter mile runs. It could get a signal from your boost pressure, say when you go over some pre-determined set point of boost and then turn on, providing additional fuel capacity to your VP.

I would think that would work well and it would be semi-automatic in function and you could even put in an over-ride switch. ;) to have it on all the time or off all the time.

Fuel Tank pickup tube

On our shop class project truck the students and I installed the 1/2 inch pickup tube and screen made by Haisley Machine, we have it installed in a Transferflow fuel tank. Fuel pickup and Transferflow fuel tank both work excellent together. We wanted the VP-44 to have plenty of fuel flow. I am certain you can make this pickup tube work on your stock fuel tank. The fuel curve is not modified on our engine to date.

I posted on diesel central about this. I would leave the return line alone. I would only upgrade the supply line to the lift pump to 1/2" ID -08AN. Take the brass inlet fitting on the lift pump to a hydraulic/fitting/hose shop to figure out the thread size, then get something from whatever size that is to -8AN for your upgraded fuel hose you're gonna run. Pushlok fittings would work good. This is how I'll plumb the crew cab's fuel hose.
