Deezul 1,

looks like we have dern near the same set-up.

I slid my plate forward and the truck really woke up.

After the DD3 injectors the clutch started to slip and now the 5th gear is squirted again. This is fun stuff. Cant wait to break the whole thing... motor and all. Good excuss to get a new one... . hehe! Honey, the motor blew up in the truck... gotta get a new one huh?

Have a 16 housing sitting here if I need it. It will go 1500deg in 4th pretty quick now. Have a BHAF prolly going in tomorow to see how much it brings down the EGT, hopefully wont have to change housings yet.

In changed my housing to 16 and came up with 25 HP. Not kidding!

With the 5 speed trucks the lag can be dealt with alot easier.

My K&N works real well. Oil analysis says she is working perfectly.

3 PPM in silicon. Very low.

No dirt is getting by this one.

I hear the BHAF is good as well.

Did you bump your timing? I went to 15. 5 degrees. Prolly going tp 16. 5 when I pull the motor next week.

Did you notice any changes when you moved the timing up, thats next on the list. Is 16. 5 going to give much advantage over 15. 5? thats what I was going to set at 15. 5.

15. 5 was my first atempt. It sems to idle much better. Little more smoke though. 'course I dont mind.

I think the trucks runs great at 16. 5 with the 5 speed. If ya get a governor spring kit... . all the better.

next for me is twins or a HX-40... if I can get Joe D to sell me one... still have not figured out how to contact him.

Don~

Joe has several post replys tonight, one was dana 70/80 or something like that, read his reply and use it to e mail him, go to the profile button at the bottom of his post.

:D :D Well I finally got the other things done so... Tonight I got to put in that plate I first started this thread about. Thanks for all the replys. The closest one in all the pics to the one I have is the #5, with mine having a sharper angle at the very bottom. I did get to test it out before I came in and it is a bit better off the bottom end but not much different. I have the plate about 1/2 way forward. BUT after the transmission locks into OD. and you are cruising along at 60 MPH. If you just think about going it is done gone:D The time from 60 to 80+ is really quick. I was maxing boost at about 22-24 before now it is about 25-27. I will try to adjust the AFC tomorrow to see if I can get the bottom end to wake up a bit. It was dark already before I got to test drive it so I will not know till tomorrow if it smokes much, if not then I will adjust the AFC.

Planning a trip this weekend, so I guess I will see how it affects MPG.

Thanks again for all the great pics.

If the plate is a #5 I would think you boost would be a bit better. A #5 should give more than 3psi of boost over stock ,but 22-24 psi of boost is very good for a stock 180hp truck.

Did you also install a boost elbow???

Holeshot,

Please look on the D. I. S. website and then go to TST

Products on that site. They have all the output of each plate with each year and trannies. If you put a small number plate any smaller than a #6 you may be rebuilding your transmission. A TST #6 is rated for your truck at 230 hp/605 lb-ft with an auto in it. D. I. S. is at "http://www.dieselpage.com". THEN contact Piers and tell him you are are TDR member and get a GREAT price! Herb

:) I didn't know about the elbow deal when I installed my boost gauge. I removed the elbow and installed a T in place of it and ran the boost gauge from that T. So no I already had a straight thru fitting on it. :D

I have seen as high as 26 psi, pulling a load before.

I think I will also have to check the waste gate to see if I can keep it closed a bit longer by making the rod loose to make it have to move more before it starts dumping. That should make a few more psi also.

HerbW, where's the fun in not being able to spend money on our trucks?? Afterall, if I put the little plate in... then it will be longer before I can rebuild the transmission!! :D I want DTT goodies in my 47RH before I put the big fuel to it... . that's for darn sure. (gauges and all the other normal stuff too... . )

It is really tempting to buy a little plate just to have fun with in the meantime.

Piers is the man... I've been talking with him since I joined the TDR... . (BEST DARN $35. 00 I've ever spent!!) and he's helped me out a ton!

The members, contributors, employees and vendors that participate with the TDR are what makes this all happen! Keep up the good work!

Now, gentleman, on to the next mystery plate:

#ad

This is a drawing of the plate profile I made before I installed it in my AFC. The results were phenominal (seat of the pants increase was great and I went from mid 20's to 35 pounds of boost). I puchased the plate through a friend of a friend... . and don't know how it compares to others plates or what it's designation would be.

Any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks

Hello Matt,

Are the DTT transmission parts the way to go? Are they in Canada? Tracy had his transmission rebuilt in Canada and I heard it's the best! I don't remember who did a complete rebuild on his. I quess I'll have to e-mail him and find out. I'm planning on ordering from Piers a plate and a mag-hytec pan as soon as I peek into my pump and see what's in there. It was tampered with before I bought it off a lot and I didn't know "BOMBING"was all about! The Torx spot is already in my blind bolt. :D Herb

Hello PP,

Hello Proven,

Send this picture to Piers and maybe he can I. D. it for you. He's probably seen them all. Let us know, Herb

HerbW,

Go to DTT's website... . Check out all his goodies and find his phone #. Talk to Bill Kondolay or his son Stephan via landline. They have the absoulte best automatic transmission parts available today. After installing a new torque converter and valve body... your truck will feel BETTER than brand new... . the difference is amazing.

Maybe someone on this thread can answer this question.

At which point should the "Rack" initailly hit the stock fueling plate, when the throttle is engaged?

Here's why:

Last weekend a couple of us helped a friend install a TST #8 plate. When we opened the AFC housing, we noticed the "rack" was hitting in the "groove" of the stock fueling plate. This didn't appear to make sense, so we explored further. We discovered the locking nut for the adjustment, that controls the "Rack" height had come loose (or was never tightened properly) and the screw had backed out. This causes the "Rack" to raise and appeared to be what caused the wrong intercept height. Our friend had purchased this pump as part of a 230 HP Uprate kit from Cummins Recon, which adds to our concern something could be wrong.

Taking a guess, we adjusted the rack to hit the lower bump (slightly up from the bottom) on #8 fueling plate, assuming the rack would ride up through the groove, under normal operation.

The truck develops 26# of boost, and seems to have reasonably good mid and high end power but the low end stinks. Boost seems to build "slowly" and the truck is a "slug" when starting from a dead stop.

Did we screw up or not, and could the remaining problem just be AFC and idle adjustments. Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated by you 12V experts.

Thanks,

Frank Dz

HerbW-

Do you have his email address?

Also, I neglected to state that the guy who purchased it for me works at Cummins and bought it through work. It came brand new in a Bosch tagged bag. The markings on the bag are:

2 427 133 620 and;

870 015110.

I am just hoping to find out what the actual specs are for the thing.

Thanks again for all the responses!

Tom
