Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) fuel pre-strainer/fuel heater

Hello all,

I need a little consulting, re this little jewel I just located after local dealers telling me "my truck didn't have one" for years! B4 I unscrew the bottom of the unit, as shown in TDR Issue 14, pp 17, do I need to have a replacement gaskit in hand? Suggestions re lubing this? A little silicon grease? Is the strainer cleanable with diesel or should I use brake cleaner? I've got 147K on my 96 baby, and believe this cleaning is long overdue... john

I removed and cleaned mine without replacing the gasket. There was very little grud in the bowl and the screen was fairly clean. Most of the dirt came off with a soft brush. My engine only had 90k.



At a 150k you might consider picking up a kit from your local Cummins dealer.
