Fuel Pressue Gauge?

How much gauge do you need for pounds of fuel pressure. i bought the Autolite gauges and the fuel pressure guage they offer was only 15#'s which I'm told is not enough. so i bought the isolator and plan on using either the 35# or 60# EGT gauge to monitor the pressue. This was based on help / guidance from autolite. does this make sense?

You need to supply more information about your truck (I assume it is a CTD) but what year is it?

If you own a 12 valve, a fuel pressure gauge is not all that necessary, as your fuel pump is mechanical and is not prone to fail.

A lot of us, who own the 24 valve (1998. 5-2003), have installed fuel pressure gauges to make sure the lift pump is working. If it fails it can cause the truck to run poorly, or worst case, it can damage the injector pump. A 15# fuel pressure gauge is adequate for installation. The stock lift pumps generally don't put out more than 15#'s pressure. What we are looking for is fuel pressure that is running less then 10#'s and specifically if we see pressures close to zero.

I don't know what the reference is to fuel pressure and EGT. EGT=Exhaust Gas Temperature. This is a different gauge.

Sorry. The truck is a 98. 5 CTD and has the 24 valve ISB engine. Im told since its an early model that the system is still mechanical. None the less, im told that the fuel pressue will spike above 15# so you really need something more than the standard gauge. Autolite recommended using the Boost gauge to monitor the fuel pressure and buying the isolator to go with the setup. I've already bought a 3-pod pillar mount and plan on installing the EGT, Boost 60#, and a Boost 35# w/isolator (to monitor fuel pressure). is this the right or wrong way to go? thanks.

The gauge you want for fuel pressure is a 0-30psi Di-Pricol with the 0-5psi red line with a good quality isolator it should work great.

Autolite is probably recommending a boost gauge not a pyrometer ("EGT gauge") as a substitute, others have done this with success. A snubber is usually a good idea to dampen the vibration to the gauge. All 12 valve engines are mechanical, all 24 valve engines are electronic.
