I've bought a set of gauges which im going to have installed and im wondering do i need a 30# gauge or will a 15# be fine. Im planning on measuring the pre-fuel filter pressure. The truck is going to be setup with DD2's or DD3's once i get the gauges installed and it currently has the Edge EZ box.

Hardegger:

If you are only going to use one pump i. e. the stock LP, or replacement aftermarket unit, the 15 will work. If you add a second pump, go with the 30. I am only running the stock pump, but installed a 30# gauge simply because I like seeing my readings about mid gauge. Easy to know about where you are at a glance.

It depends on your lift pump. With the stock lift pump (16,000 miles) and Ray's banjo bolts, I peg my pre-filter and post-filter 16 PSIG gauges at idle and run about 15 PSIG at cruise, 12-13 at WOT. In retrospect, I wish I had bought the 0-30 PSIG dual combo gauge and sending units. :(

It's my understanding the two largest restrictions in the stock fuel system are between the LP and fuel filter, and then at the inlet at the VP 44. My sender comes off of the inlet to the VP. I want to know what's going on there as I've already killed one VP.

I'd recommend larger banjo's at a minimum with an EZ and DD2's or 3's. A 15psi guage is probably adequate, but if I was doing it over, I'd get the 30.

If a guy has a stock lift pump and adds a pusher pump rated at 7 psi and 100 gph just if front of the fuel tank, will that create too much presure for the VP44 using both pumps?

Thanks!

Go with the 30psi guage: I kept breaking my 15psi guage??? I don't know if it was from spikes in the pressure:confused: or what but since I installed my 30psi guage I have not had a problem.

I am running a moved lift pump (near tank) 1/2" lines to the filter and 3/8 lines to the VP. DD2's and an EZ.

Get the 30 gauge. Since you will be running right around half of that for normal range, you will have the most accurate readings. It also gives you more wiggle room on the top and bottom ends.

Joe---what are you doing sneaking in like that?? he, he---go with the 30lb---I think I have some of the lines to get rid of your restrictions in the fuel system--call me---good to see you here---chris

15 psi or 30 psi?

I went with 15 psi gauge after speaking with 2 members who had them. I wanted smaller gauge because my Pillar was full and I wanted electric. If ISSPRO had an electric EV I would have done that but went with 2" electric from Summit Racing. Saved some money and it works well. Even with new Lift pump it seldom pegs at 15 psi, but that is post filter-which I would recommend. When it does peg - no damage. I have a steering column mount that many say they don't like but works for me. Unless your planning to add fuel pressure later-a 15 psi will get the job done.

Get a 30 (or 35) psi gauge. You want to be measuring with the center of the sweep, as that's where gauges are calibrated to be most accurate.

DEFINITELY measure the pressure at the inlet to the VP44, not anywhere before, as this is the biggest restriction place with stock lines. With the power you will have, a pusher pump may be necessary, and they tend to bump the idle pressures up to around 18-20psi (depending on the kit you buy).

Go with the 30# and hook it up post filter.

Then you can see when the filter needs changing due to the drop in pressure.

This is how mine is hooked up.

Inlet to VP-44 is where you NEED to know the pressure. Of course if you go with big-line, banjo-elimination kit (like the Wildcat Max Flow)there will be very little difference in the pressure anywhere post filter.

My gauge is 15# electric and is fine for my system, but my LP has never made much more than 13 PSI.

High psi from OEm pump??

Now that I got rid of my isolator, I am idling at 17psi, cruise around 14, and WOT around 5psi.

All my delivery system is stock. The Wildcat Max flow setup is in the future...
