just installed a fuel pressure gauge, it reads 22-23 psi at idle.

is this normal, or is it too high?

when under load it drops to 14 -15 psi wich as i understand is normal

there is a diesel dynamics pusher pump in the truck and was wondering if it is pushing to much pressure at idle for the very expensive yet weak vp44.

Sounds great. Leave it alone. No less than 6psi WOT and you're set.

was just wondering if the high pressure is causing the cold start situation that never seems to get solved

Yes it can but it could be a hand full of things not knowing what has been done to your truck. Is this fuel pressure pre-filter or after filter to the vp44? I think you would be best to stay under 17-18 psi.

pressure is measured after the filter at the vp44.

If you connected it per our instructions, the pusher will only run when the stock pump runs. This means when you hit the key, it will come on for just a second, then wait until you get on the starter to engage again. This should not be the cause of a hard start problem.

You might consider replacing the return valve banjo on the return line. I have seen that clear up hard start problems.

one more thing to try. i was more concerned with the high pressure at idle.

My truck has made 21-22psi for the last 50k miles. We have done trucks with the old 12v mechanical pump pushing to it, making ~45-50psi at idle. No problems.
