Guys,

I have a 99 and a 00 and need fuel pressure gages for both. I want sending units to mount under the hood, preferably post filter (is this the best place to monitor??) then I want to put electrical gages in the cabs of both trucks would prefer to have the new column mount for the single gages. I assume I need a 0-20 psi gage for this. I here alot of talk about people running gages, but where do I get one??? I think I heard westburg makes one???? Please help as I am about to bomb my 00 and the pressure now is 3-4 psi sitting still at 3000rpms, 11 psi at idle.

thanks

Gauges.

Geno's has a westach but its 0 to 15 psi for under one hundred and Auto Meter has one in the Z series allso 0 to 15 psi for under a 3 spot $$$ I think Stewart Warner makes them allso.

Check out www.piersdiesel.com, give him a call. He's trying to get enough interest started in having us email Isspro to ask them to build us an 0-30 psi fuel pressure gauge, see the thread over in Products/ Accessories Forum. Also, Advanced Diesel Technology www.smokindiesel.com has a nice, durable fuel pressure gauge system.

The electric fuel pressure gauges from AutoMeter do not have sending units durable enough to last longer than 3-6 months, and they cost $200. We're all looking for a decent gauge set up...

If you're not fussy about having your fuel gauges match the boost & EGT gauges, check out www.nordskogperformance.com

Fuel Guage

I need a fuel guage too. Good write-up by Steve St. Laurent in the current TDR magazine. Need a guage that can measure up to 25-30 psi in my opinion. Especially when running two pumps. I think the Stewart Warner looks good. Not too impressed with the Westach Guage in Geno's Garage catalog. I wonder how the Stewart Warner guage holds up?

I made a bracket that attached between the Brake Master Cylinder and the Assist module. It uses a 24" grease gun hose to connect to the location of your choice (1/8" NPT, I used Ray's tapped banjo bolts) and standard fittings to mount the sender to the bracket. A picture is work many words, but I need two to show you. Here it is installed with a SPA sender...

Here is the bracket by itself. The one on the left is the modified bracket, the one on the right is the original equipment bracket. It is just aluminum plate cut and bent to replace the original bracket. Look around the brake master cylinder on your truck and you will see what I mean.

Bombing party

Maybe we just need to have a few (East coast, west coast, central) bombing parties to have a fuel pressure guage install. Get all the parties in the same thread to honk at piers and be their initial volunteer 'beta testers' for the new product..... For a small discount of course  :D

I need to install the FP guage and I'm having a heck of a time getting up the courage and oomph.

I ordered the Geno's kit. A 4-1 banjo kit, and the 0-16 FP gauge with one sender. I was going to go with the 2 sender kit and dual readout, but they talked me into the single sender set up saying that "you'd know when the filter is getting clogged by the way the truck runs. " So, no need to monitor the filter. Plus, if you change at regular intervals you shouldn't get clogged anyway unless you get a bad tank of fuel, which would cause you to stumble, right?

My question is, what does the single gauge set up monitor? It's attached to the VP44 at the shcraeder valve location (removed and replaced with banjo bolt) Is it reading VP pressure or lift pump pressure?

Also, I'm installing it in the cubby hole on the dash. I need some install input for that location please.

I assume you ordered the Westach gauge, but it isn't critical which one you have. It should be installed, post filter, and the easiest place is on the VP44 fuel inlet line from the filter. You are measuring pressure from the lift pump through the filter, at this location. You remove the schraeder valve and replace it with the banjo bolt from Geno's. I recommend you use a piece of fuel hose and attach the hose to the VP44 and remote the sender away from the VP44. You can get a host made up at a pnematics shop, or some members have used a grease gun extension hose, which can be bought at a parts store, and comes with 1/8" fittings. If you don't remote the sender, you will likely get erradic readings at the gauge due to vibration and pulsing. HAVE FUN!!!:D :D

Thanks RJOL. How long should the hose be for the sender, and where do you attach it (zip tie?)?

Anyone have ideas, suggestions on the cubby hole install? What's the best method for running the wires, and tapping (which/what) for power, etc... ?

Thanks

Shcraeder valve?

I see a shcraeder valve on the back side of my fuel filter houseing on my Y2K model, could I install the banjo bolt and sender from that one and if so would that be post or pre filter?
