Just finished installing my 0-35 PSI Auto Meter Sport Comp mechanical Fuel Pressure Gauge. I got the 2-5/8" gauge, mounting cup and 6 feet of AN line with fittings already assembled from Andy at www.SmokinDiesel.com Install was easy, took about 40 minutes. The gauge is mounted down low near the 4x4 shifter. I will be posting pics of the install soon.

Now the BAD news: I started the truck and i have 4PSI at IDLE!. I floor it and the gauge goes to ZERO. Now i have to deal with the stupid lift pump now!.

EMD, good thing you got the pusher pump! Most of all it is good you caught a problem before it took out the VP44.

Question. . . where did you hook up your mechanical line? I had a mechanical gauge in the cab for fuel pressure but took it out due to the noise a couple weeks later. I had it hooked up at the injection pump and the injections pulsations made the gauge hum very loudly, like spark plug static on an AM radio.

Vaughn

I have it hooked up at the pump, absolutley no noise, yet, but then again i have no fuel pressure, so who knows if it will get loud. I have not installed the Pusher pump and i dont want to untill the stock pump is fixed.

EMD... .

Thanks for the post. (disregard my private email :)

Hope you can post some pics.

Where and how did you install the isolator?

What type of line did you purchase for the connection from the isolator to the pump?

Thanks... .

I did not use an isolator, just AN line with Aeroquip steel fittings. Smokin diesel gives you everything, including the fittings to attatch it to the injector pump. The Braided stainless line is good for up to 2,000psi as are the steel fittings. I am not worried about 20psi max of non explosive fuel at worst, harmlessly dripping on to my mat. The Isolator is nice, but really not required for diesel fuel. Its designed to keep gasoline out of the passenger compartment which does pose a threat, diesel fuel does not. but it has to be at the same level as the gauge to be most accurate. I have my gauge under the dash, so the isolator would be a major hassle anyhow.

Vaughn,

I have a mechanical gauge with isolator. I also have a hum but it comes from the isolator. I've tried Dynamat and that seemed to help a little but it still sounds like a gas engine pinging. I mounted the isolator on the power brake booster bracket so it may be transfering the noise that way. Even though I don't like the noise, it's well worth it to know what psi my lift pump is putting out.

I have a mechanical fuel pressure gauge (Autometer) in the top hole of my three-hole pillar pod.

I have not noticed any additional noise from this gauge or setup.

EMD, you didnt know your lift pump was going untill you hooked up the pressure gauge is this correct? Does anyone know what symtoms you will get as the presure drops below what EMD has on his? Will the eng. just not run at all? Or miss? Thanks chuck.

I had no symptoms, and honestly, i dont notice any difference in power even when the gauge shows 0 PSI unless what i consider normal, is in fact, not
