On a Westach fuel pressure guage installation, do the pulsations from the VP44 injector pump cause a problem with the sender? If it is a problem, what have other TDR members used to dampen out these pulsations? Also, what is the best location on the fuel system to measure fuel pressure. I want to do the installation correctly the first time out and want to draw upon the expertize of my fellow TDR members. Your advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I installed my Westach fuel pressure guage post filter on the filter housing, so I can tell when the filter has gotten dirty and neads changed. I will use a drilled and tapped banjo bolt from Geno's Garage as soon as I get around to order it. Reason being that I have to screw the gauge out now to bleed the fuel filter when I change it.

Altho I have had no trouble with mine for the 6 months its been mounted on the filter housing some guys use a grease gun hose to mount the gauge remote and get away from the engine vibration. This is probably a good idea.

Oh, and I can't see any pulsations from the VP44 on the gauge... ... Hope this helps

I had pulsations in my SPA,when i had the guage in the banjo fitting,I used a 16" piece of 1/4 " hose, mounted it on the fenderr, pulsations are gone/I just got a westach FP guage for my Dad for Xmas,I am wondering the same thing,I think ill remote mount it to be sure.

Installed mine at the schrader valve on the VP44 pump with 4an fittings and 18" of line, works great and no pulsations.

16 psi at idle.

8-9 at WOT.

Mounted my Westach sender on the VP44 inlet from the filter with a modified banjo bolt. Readings became erradic within 200 miles. Got a 3' fuel hose, had fittings put on each end (most pneumatics shop can do this) and remoted the sender to a place over the wheel well, just behind the fuse box. No more problems since... ;)

Installed one on a members truck ('99), Used a piece of rubber hose to the isolator and used a plastic tie to the firewall. Rock steady Westach fuel gauge. Sam

I have two (2) Westach sending units, one pre-filter (inlet banjo bolt to filter) and one post-filter (outlet banjo bolt at bottom of filter). Both are remote-mounted on the firewall and are plumbed to the banjo bolts with braided stainless steel hose.

I lost two (2) post-filter sending units to pulsation in the first 1000 miles after gauge installation. After installing a gauge snubber at the inlet to the post-filter sending unit, I've had no more problems.

I installed my Westach FP gauge last week. Same setup as RustyJC. Except I used 18" grease gun hose to isolate the senders. Then mounted the senders to the master break cylinder.

If you use grease gun hose get the ones with brass fittings. I used hoses from Napa that had silver fittings. These did not fit the taped banjo bolts properly and leaked. Had to replace them. The brass hoses sealed fine and did not leak a drop. Used premitex sealer on the threads.

I think the dual senders is worth the extra effort and cost. :)

I want to thank everyone for the great information. I hope to get the gauge installed over the holidays. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
