Fuel pressure gauge question

I have a 98 12v and wanted to know who has the best prices on a mechanical gauge and where is the best spot to hook up the line- the post filter or the injector pump?? IS an isolator really needed or is it a piece of mind thing??

Bud,

I like Geno's Garage. they have a mechanical (i think dipricol) fuel pressure gauge now. i have a different fuel filter set up than you, but I think you have a plugged port on the filter housing. if not, it is easy to tie to the VP44. snubber is good to keep a mechanical gauge from bouncing or buzzing.

The isolator is not needed if you place the gauge outside the cab somewhere. If you place the guage inside without the isolator (i. e. running pressurized fuel line into the cab), and the line breaks for some reason, I don't have to explain what happens.

You have to use a snubber or needle valve cranked almost shut with a 12 valve or you won't be able to read the gauge it will be pulsing so wildly. Because of this any leak downstream of the snubber will be reduced to a slow drip.

Isolators are just an extra hassle and cost.

I wouldn't even bother on a 12v. Check the pressure once a year and replace overflow valve as needed, but that's it.
