What is the acceptable range of fuel pressure for a 12V? Where should I hook into the fuel system to obtain a reading? I am thinking of installing a gauge to monitor the fuel pressure. I currently have Auto Meter Ultra Lite gauges and want to make sure I buy a setup that can handle the range of pressure of the Cummins.

Does a port or banjo fitting exist anywhere in the system or did you have to drill and tap the top of the fuel filter housing? Keep in mind that I have a '95 and am using a 1253 Fleetguard fuel filter.

I drilled and taped the test port in the banjo larger.

SEmerson,

Give me an idea how you gained access to the test port. Were you able to mount the mechanical gauge inside the cab? Do you have any pictures of the process? I really appreciate any advice.

There is a banjo bolt on top of the fuel filter. The test port is too small. So I drilled and taped it. Then put on a valve to snub it. From there to inside the the piller.

You can also tap the inlet banjo fitting to the injector pump. Pull the fitting off and drill from the inside out to get it straight. Tap it and be sure to get all the shavings cleaned out of there. Good luck;)

SEmerson,

Did you run the fuel pressure line directly into the cab or did you run some type of isolator? I don't want diesel in the cab if I can avoid it.

Also, at what throttle position did you see what fuel pressure readings. Did it approach 0 psi @ WOT?

I run 30-39 even at full throtle with a clean filter. If I get down to 10 or so I change filters. I run no isolator in my 01 or my 97. Thay are available but I was to cheap. I have never had a leak.

Hmmm... a 1/8"- 27 Pipe Tap? I measured and didn't think it would work. Guess I need to check again. I am wanting to tap me a guage in too.

man, i thought illflem went all through this a while back. i think it's easier to do as he said and tap right at the pump... ... .

The banjo on the side of the pump is the best place. You don't need any more hoses and stuff up by the filter to get in the way.
