well just got off the phone with autometer they told me the ultra lite gauge I have doesnt work for our trucks now that injection pump died. they said dont believe what it reads so now before I put new pump in who makes a fp gauge that will fit in the steering column mount I have and will semi match the ultra lite gauges but most importantly works right

Why wouldn't it work with our trucks?... ... ..... Fuel pressure is fuel pressure, it doesn't matter if it is Ferd fuel pressure or Dodge fuel pressure:confused:

Thats funny I have a Autometer fuel pressure gauge and have never had a problem, in fact they (autometer) told me which one was the best for a my application.

I think the person you spoke too is missing one too many lug nuts on their wheels.

Fuel pressure measurement is a physical thing and has nothing to do with make/model, etc... pressure is pressure regardless of the medium.

If you have a mechanical guage, it only needs to be compatible with diesel fuel to prevent the diaphram from deteriorating.

If measuring a pressure point subject to a lot of pulsation, then the guage needs to be damped. And that only to keep the needle steady and reading the average pressure.

Thats what I'm using with no problems, Just run a snubber hose from the VP to the firewall for placement of your sending unit. Put a small T valve in line near your sender, barely open the valve and that will cut down on the pulsations. I think the one you talked to had there head on backwards, Autometer is a great gauge. Good luck.

If it is unsnubbed the gauge will bounce bad. And will also die soon. A snubber will smooth out the pulses from the pump. 1/8" needle valve works great.

I have read all the posts regarding the lift pump problems that some are having and I am begining to get paranoid. My 99 3500 has just over 91,000 miles and, as far as I can tell, has no lift pump problems. Some say it is possible to drive with a bad (or dead) LP with the injection pump picking up the slack and I am wondering if that is my case. I guess one way to be sure is to install a fuel pressure gage.

I am about to order an Westach fuel pressure gage from Geno's which has a sending unit that mounts on the fuel filter housing. So, questions:

1. Which housing port is used??

2. Is this gage and connection location satisfactory to monitor LP performance?

3. Does anyone have pros of cons about this gage set up?

I will appreciate any thoughts you have.

GeorgeW.

George W what year is your truck? Post filter would be best then you can tell when your filter is getting old, you should show a slight decrease in pressure. Yes this would be a good spot, basically anywhere after the pump will help, I think just having the gauge is important. When I put mine on I found out I was running 6psi and 0psi open throttle. Not good. Cant speak for the Westach because I use Auotmeter. I'm sure someone will chime it with more info. Good luck.

Gottorq, the snubber line is a 18" or so piece of hose the will remotely mount your sender off the VP to help reduce pulsations and extent sender life, also you can add a T valve to shut the line down almost to nothing to reduce more of the pulsations. This will also extend your sender life and smooth your gauge out. Good luck.

fule pressure gauge

I have a Westach from Geno's. They will send good instructions with the unit. Mine uses the !8" hose & I fabricated a bracket to the TPS cover for the sending unit, as in the illustration. The gauge responds quickly with no pulsing.

GeorgeW, I use the Westach gage set up mine works just fine,Ialso ordered it from Geno's and they were very helpful,Mine hooks to the VP it self to a 30psi sending unit two wires to the gauge and one of the wires is a ground... Iget 18psi at idle, 10or11 psi when i mash the pedal,no other movements or flucuations so I guess it's right... . thanks DHoleman
