Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel Pressure Gauges

Looking for recomendations on brand and type of a fuel pressure gauges also

where and how to mount. Also looking for a shop and or mechanic in So Cal

I'm happy with my dealer but his prices are killing me Thanks for your input in advance

FP guage

Did the guage install thing a couple of months ago and things turned out pretty good... only thing I would have done differently is the painting of the A-Pillar which I did with automotive paint. The paint job came out great but it cost a pretty penny (would've been much cheaper to get a can from the dealership or online and done it that way. BTW, my ride is a 98. 5 so your access to the post filter line might be different (may want to go with the shraeder hose from Geno's instead. Check out the pix on my page (got some details on the install)...

I've had a Westach (bought at Geno's) now for a couple of years and it's been flawless. Mine is also installed in the post-filter test port that us 98. 5 and 99 guys have and my gauges are all in the a-pillar.

I installed ISSPRO guages a couple months ago in the A-pillar. ISSPRO FP guage came with an isolator unit that i spliced into the section of hose between the transfer pump and the filter/water separator. The tubing between the isolator and the guage is filled with antifreeze so there is not any fuel into the cab.

Do gauges that don't use an isolator use a sending unit or does the fuel go to the gauge in the cab?

mechanical gauges use an isolator, or a straight line (filled with diesel) from the engine to the gauge in the cab. electric gauges use a sender.

I have a Dakota Digitial Gauge..... Works awesome and you can set high/low limits to make the display blink when the fp gets too low.

what about autometer, i had several gauges from them in my old 78 ram, no fuel pressure but what is the take on their products compared to others

Got mine at Geno's, a year or so ago, with no back order. They did have to back order my fancy seatcovers but the wait was short.

Kissfan autometer doesnt make a good fuel pressure gauge for dodge diesels. I called and asked 2 days ago and they told me they dont recomment that I use their gauge. So I just ordered my westach for Geno's today. They have both white and black faces in stock for the 0-30 psi gauge. My second choice would be a dakota digital. Gauge cost $70. with the sender. On a personal note the westach is a little strange looking but I'll live with it.

Thats odd, There has been some good things mentioned here on the auto meter fuel pressure gauges and from the (chevy) dieselpage.com from when I had a 6. 5 TD. Did Autometer happen to say why they are not for Diesels?

They stated that the dodges have spikes in the fuel pressure the kills there sending units. They flat out said dont but our fuel pressure gauge it wont last long. Yah I was stunned at first then I spoke to Genos and they confirmed they wont sell there fuel gauge either. . I also spoke to the place I ordered my pod with 3 autometer gauges (boost 0-60, transmission temp, pyro) and they said they would sell me the gauge but I was on my own as far as a warrenty on it. So thats 3 people in 1 day including the manufacturer all saying the same thing. Now dont get me wronge there are some people with them and they work but there are lots that have had issues to try and fix as well.

Reason Im interested is I will soon be putting on a Autometer 0-15psi FPG with a 10 micron snubber. I agree on the point of a 0-15 psi scale without a snubber is asking for trouble. Any one out here experiance a blown sender or 0-15psi Autometer gauge while using a snubber?

autometer FP guage...

I've got the autometer 4344 FP guage (elec sender) but have only had it installed for about 2 months now. I installed this with a needle valve in series to temper the hydraulic spikes and its worked so far... (you can see the install in my gallery). The needle valve is almost all the way closed (< 1/8 turn open) and was set just open enough so that I could get reasonable response from changes in pressure.



No complaints so far...

Im using Stewart Warner. I luv them. NO problems so far. They are about the same $$$$as auto meter. Might want to check out www.dieselminded.otisnet.net b4 buying / installing them. It has some great ideas and tips on the entire "how to" process.
