Gentlemen,

As this is my first CTD, I need a little help.

I want to put in pillar mounted guages before I start doing mods to get a baseline. I was thinking boost, pyro, trans temp and fuel pressure. Now, the pillar mount only takes 3 guages, so I was thinking of using the SPA technologies guages dual unit for the trans and fuel guages as their website does list a combo fuel pressure/temp unit.

question is: on a 2004. 5, do I need to monitor fuel pressure and is it possible. All of the supplier site including Gino's Garage talk about how to connect a fuel pressure guage to 96' to 02' trucks with no mention of 03 and up... ... Can it be done, is it worthwhile, where would I connect to the fuel system?

I'm leaning towards a Banks Six Gun unit after I get a baseline. They tell me I can get away with changing the muffler and installing a less restrictive air filter.

Thanks for any input. This is an awesome website!Oo. Oo. Oo.

I like the electronic gauge I have on my triple pillar-accurate all the time so I always know what the pressure is and a good way to tell when you need to change the filter.

I have a FP gauge in my 04. I connected it to the low side of the fuel line going into the HPCR pump. Had it there for over 5k miles now, with no problems. No noise, no vibrating needle. I did use the isolator in the line. Some don't, some do. The line comes out the bottom of the fuel filter canister to the pump. Measures it between the filter and HP pump, so it will tell me if the filter is clogged.

That's what turned me away from Banks. I got the feeling they were trying to sell me every product they made. I'm not dissing the Six Gun. It's probably a good product, but I assure you that you can install it and still be able to control EGT's. I have an EZ and ran it on level 4 for the first week and didn't have any EGT issues. I have stock exhaust and AFE filter.

I guess what I'm saying is shop around and research some other products in regard to exhaust and intake filter. Maybe even try the box first without the exhaust and see if an exhaust is needed. I do agree that the guages are a must and also provide peace of mind.

It appears that the aftrmarket air filter systems make a more noticeable drop in egt's in the 3rd gen over the earlier gens. Could be the location of the intake air also. :D

Thanks guys!!

That's exactly what I want to hear, what you guys like and dislike and what works for you.

Thanks for the feedback.

Jengle, can you give me more specifics about where you mounted the sender and what is an isolator? Thanks!

fuel psi hookup

I was given the hose from Geno's and I found out that the second gen schraeder valve fitting will thread in place of the 3rd gen banjo bolt . so I bought one from Cummins.

FParlee,

It doesn't have a "sender", just uses a banjo bolt to tap the line. That has a fitting on it for the tube to the guage. In my case, to the isolator. This is a small valve that keeps the fuel separated from the cab of the truck. The fuel line goes to one end of the isolator, the gauge line to the other side of it. Check out DPP, Diesel Power Products, for a better description of it. I mounted mine on the firewall.
