Noob question here. I've tried searching the fourms, but so much comes up when searching on lift pump and fuel pressure... .

Here's my question: Is lift pump failure and ensuing damage to injector pump a problem in '03 CTDs?

I bought a used truck and am trying to figure out if a fuel pressure gauge is considered a necessary item. Much of what I've read (here, TDR magazine, and Genos) seems to imply that the fuel pressure gauge is a must have in the 98. 5-02 trucks. Does this continue into the 03s and up?

I believe my truck is a stock 3500 4x4 auto trans.

Thanks

Yep, fuel pressure gauge is reccomended. Same crappy LP, same crappy results. The 05's now have the pump in-tank and they seem only marginally better. The CP3's don't seem as finicky as the VP44's about fuel but they can and will die from low fuel flow.

And my truck has a CP3 not a VP44?

Yes you have a CP3

I just installed an Autometer 30 psi gauge and with the Quad box on the 100HP

setting I can pull my fuel pressure down to 1-2 PSI. Looks like it's time to look into a new electric pump.

haveing good fuel pressure is one thing you need but you also need to have the right amount of flow as well. i have an 03 and i have 10 psi but my flow amount is at 150 mL at 10 seconds when it should be 400 mL.
