I had been concerned about fuel pressure, or lack of fuel pressure. I put a Westach fuel pressure gauge on after the in-tank mod was put in my truck and was really not happy with what I saw. When pulling my trailer, I'm a hotshot driver and tow daily, I was seeing at most 2 - 4 lbs and most of the time 0 or below. I went back to Dodge and they did a flow test on my lift pump and said it was putting out what it was supposed to, 430 - 440 ml per 10 sec. They said there was nothing they could do.

Everything I had read seemed to indicate that with the in-tank pump you would have to remove it in order to put another pump on. After checking around I found that BD Products has a auxiliary pump that works inline with any of the Dodge pumps, in-tank or on the block. It is a simple install, takes about 3 hours to do. The instructions are good and everything you need comes with the kit. The main advantage of the kit is that it has a oil pressure switch that keeps the aux. pump from starting until the engine is running and making oil pressure. Some trucks are reported to be hard to start with high fuel pressure. My pressure now is 22 lbs at idle and 20 lbs at WOT with just the pickup. I haven't pulled the trailer today, but I'm sure it will be 10 - 15 lbs. at the lowest. This should extend the life of my CP3 and lift pump, I've had two of each replaced. If you tow, I believe you need to watch your fuel pressure which to me is the only weak part of this truck.

I was going to put a fuel pressure gauge on my 2005 but was told by Geno's Garage and John Holms that it would just frustrat me for that very reason of seeing 0 psi alot. but that does not mean it does not concern me I will check out the secondary pump.

You really don't need the delayed start of the pump... the hard starts is a VP44 issue, not a CP3 issues. I actually ran 25psi for several weeks before I got a lower PSI spring for my FASS.

I got a FASS for a similar reason... to ensure I was getting fuel.

Guess I could have saved some money if I knew the hard starting problem was about the VP 44. Oh well, I know I'm getting plenty of fuel now and the pump will work in conjunction with the in-tank lift pump. It is basically a 100 gal per hr. Carter electric fuel pump. It does come with all the fittings and brackets you need to hook it up.
